Odd Rash When Scratched?

Since last night I've noticed I'm getting a weird rash when my skin is scratched or rubbed. We just moved into a new apartment & last night was my 2nd shower here. I used the same shampoo, body wash, face wash & loofa scrubbie as I had been using at the old apartment. By the time I got out of the shower, put my glasses on to see, & looked in the mirror, my chest/abdomen, back, & some of my arms & legs were red. It mostly looked like scratches. I looked like I had been tortured!! lol It didn't seem to itch or hurt. About 20 mins later they had mostly gone away.

Now tonight, as I'm sitting at my desk (in just my bra b/c it's gotten so hot in here! LOL) I noticed my back seemed a little sore, maybe even a little itchy. I went to look in the mirror and again, my back is all "scratched" in a rash.. I guess I was rubbing on the pillow behind me.

None of it is raised like hives, just a pink rash.

Could it be something at the new apartment?? Something in the water that is sitting on my skin now?

Btw, my first shower at the new apartment I didn't use my scrubbie. I had my mysterious allergy hives over the weekend so I couldn't scrub!

Any ideas? If it doesn't quit happening in the next few days I guess I'll be asking a doctor...

What can I do next?

I would try taking some benedryl, it could just be an allergic reaction, or use some cream on it if you have some.

Could be the water, if you are new to the area.

Did you clean when you moved in...could be something the previous occupant and/or owner cleaned with or used that you are allergic to.

Could be a mixture of heat and humidity.

I would at least call the doctor and see if they have any suggestions before you make an appointment.

I have very sensitive skin. Even hard water makes me get itchy and hive like...maybe hard water is the culprit? Mine usually fade away, stop itching about 20 minutes after I am out of the bath or shower as well, I use Aveeno products to help alleviate some of the discomfort and also use over the counter lotions after bath /shower like Curel and I have even used Gold Bond Medicated lotion to stop the itchiness.

Maybe you need a new shower head? (or a thorough cleaning on the old one). They may have yucky stuff growing in the old shower head, especially if no one lived there in a while.

I am not sure if this is at all related to your case but has the apartment been checked for mold? Mold can cause serious allergic reactions and it might be a wierd combo with water making your skin more sensitive. I watched the show the Doctors today and they have a link for free mold testing...

I am not sure if they go to your area, but it might be a good idea to check, whether its related to your skin problem or not.

Good luck!

Heat rash? Since it's hot and it happened out of the shower too? Are you prone to it?

My first thought was mold also. It could be mold hidden in the bathroom, thus causing a reaction in the shower.
