I am looking for a new ob/gyn and was wondering it anyone had any suggestions. I was using a nurse midwife and was very happy with her but I'm not crazy about the doctors in the practice. I was looking into going to Lori Halderman but have heard not so good things about the office staff there. Any info/suggestions would be very helpful. THANKS

So What Happened?

OK, so after hearing so many wonderful things about Dr. Halderman I called and made an appointment. The scheduler was very nice and I am scheduled to see the doctor on June 10. She even said she would call me if anything came open any earlier. Thanks for all of the wonderful responses. I am sure I made the right call.

Craig Ranch on 121 is great. I have been going there for 3 years and have had two babies with the doctor's there. I have been pleased. ###-###-####. Good luck!

I have heard Dr. Lori Halderman was good but the billing department not so much. Seems like if you have money and don't question them, you're fine. If you are shopping around doing research trying to look for a place to have your baby and have lots of questions, the billing lady may be rude.

Hi,
I was a patient of Dr. Halderman. I absolutely loved her, and had seen her a few times. My last visit, however, was billed incorrectly and it turned into a HUGE fiasco which took over a year to resolve. The billing and office staff were unhelpful, arrogant, and downright RUDE!! The bill they said was due was over $150. Instead of correcting the claim and re-billing it as I had requested on numerous occasions, they opted to continue billing me the wrong amount, and eventually sent it to collections. I was called and harassed by the billing office AND by the collection agency for months. I received numerous letters stating that because I refused to pay my medical bill, that I was no longer welcome in their office, and to find another doctor! (Excuse me?!?!) I tried talking to various billing staff and the billing manager, all of whom stopped returning my calls kindly requesting they fix THEIR ERROR!! They were nice when I called in- when they thought I was was going to pay. But once I asked them to correct their claim, their tone quickly changed. One staffer even told me that I should just pay the $150+ bill since it wasn't that much. (If it's such a little amount to them, why are they harassing me over it; why not write it off? I don't have an extra $150 when they billed my visit wrong!!) I was researching the office information to report them to the state of TX. when I discovered that the office had, on staff, their own patient advocate. (Why should a small OB/GYN office need a patient advocate??? That should be a clue to any prospective patient right there) I figured it wouldn't help, but I contacted the patient advocate, explained the situation to her, and she had the claim corrected in under a week. (WHY was this so hard to do?? Why did it take them over a year to do the right thing??) I ended up owing the office about $20 with the corrected claim, which I paid. So, I was charged over $130 extra in error, harassed by them due to the bill, sent to collections, and had to spend over a year trying to get it resolved, when THEY made the mistake!! It was absolutely ridiculous! (Sorry- I still get fired up about this!!) Although I loved Dr. Halderman, the billing and office staff caused them to lose me as a patient. I will never go there again! No one deserves to be treated so horribly and belittled as I was! Since then, I have heard of many other women having similar issues with this office. My advice: run away.... far, far away!!

I've gone to Dr Halderman for nine years and love her!! She delivered my first baby (we moved away before having the second, then moved back) at Medical Center of McKinney. I had an awesome birth with her and the hospital was great too. I've always had good experiences with all of the staff too. They have a midwife on staff that I've seen. And their sono tech is good too! I had my second child with a midwife which was great too, but now that we've moved back to the area I'm back with Dr Halderman because I just love her. And if you're kind of crunchy like me (since you mentioned seeing a midwife) I did non-medicated births. Feel free to contact me if you'd like to ask any more questions!

I see Jeanean at Dr. Halderman's office. Jeanean is a nurse midwife there. I had a miscarriage at the beginning of the year after having a complicated 4 months of pregnancy. My complications went on for sometime after the miscarriage. I have been to the office a million times since 2010 started and talked to every person there I think and I have been very pleased. They just moved to Adriatica.

I am with most of the ladies here, I use Dr. Halderman and have used her for years. I have not had any children with her, but everything else that can be done in that region has been done. I have had cysts removed, a couple of times, a partial hysterectomy , then a full hysterectomy, all together I think she has probably done surgery on me around 7 times in as many years and I wouldn't trust anyone else. She always makes sure she talks to my husband, before and after, even going as far as wondering the hospital floors to find him after surgery to let him know that I was doing fine.

I go to Dr. Jennifer Allen who is in with Dr. Halderman, and I love that whole practice. I have never had any issues with the office staff. All the doctors are great and I really trust them. Actually, we're 9 weeks along with our second one right now and I go to see Dr. Allen tomorrow!

Good luck in your search!

I love my ob/gyn. She is in Plano though. I am a nurse and work at Medical Center of Plano. Dr. Judith Hsu is the most gentle and sweetest doctor I know! I gave birth to my son 5 years ago. Dr Hsu was the doctor of the year then, and who knows how many more! And may I add, Medical Center of Plano is the best place to have a baby! The staff is wonderful and we have one of the best NICU in the area (hopefully you won't need it though) The Women's floor is currently being remodeled and it's going to be awesome! Think about it, Plano is not far away and you will get excellent service from Dr Hsu and the staff at The Medical Center of Plano!

Not sure what bad things you've heard about Dr. Halderman and her practice/staff, because they are all great! I regularly see one of Dr. Halderman's partners -- Dr. Allen -- but I've never had a bad experience with anyone at their practice. Dr. Allen delivered my youngest 3 years ago as a VBAC, and I was so thrilled she was open to my desire not to do a c-section again (I have since discovered how rare that is).

I see Dr. Luciani at McKinney Medical Center. I really like him and his staff is nice also. His practice has grown quite a bit so I had to wait to see him but he will take the time to talk to you and answer any questions you may have. Having a pap test no matter who does it is always embarrassing but he is very professional and makes it no big deal. He was in the military and was taught by midwives there so he is not like regular ob doctors. He believes in more natural ways of doing things. He also delivered my last baby and I will be going to him again if/when I have another baby but will deliver at McKinney instead of Allen. Good Luck.

Just wanted to leave an additional comment of Praise for Dr. Halderman (and the other doctors and staff). I have delivered 3 babies, one with many, many visits to the office and have nothing but great things to say about all the office and staff. They are wonderful, I am sure she would be happy to meet with you to answer any questions or concerns you might have.
