Hi Invisible Friends,
I m bad in remembering to take my pills. I am 43, Mom of 4 little ones , all under 10. I was on pills 7 years ago, but stopped after a few months. I don't know if at my age I can still get pregnant. What do you recommend? I just moved to Allen, can you recommend a good caring OB-GYN? I don; feel like havig another baby, but at my age, it is painful to think about abortion, please give me any advice.
Thanks to all your good tips
Vava

I have the Mirena IUD and I really like it so far. It lasts for 5 years and you don't have to remember to take the pill, apply a patch or get a shot.
Also, I would highly recommend my Ob-Gyn - Dr. Jennifer Bailey. She practices at Frisco Ob-Gyn at 121 and Coit in Frisco. There are 2 other doctors in the same practice (all women), and they both seem very nice also.
Good luck!
My OBGYN is amazing! His name is Dr. Bruce Rajala and he offices at Allen Presbyterian Hospital.

I have been going to him for about 7 years now and have always been happy. He was very understanding and caring while I was pregnant and did a great job delivering my daughter.
Hope this helps you.
Hi- I'm 42 and a new mommy of a beautiful 14 week-old daughter who is adopted. I love Dr Maryann Prewitt in Plano. She no longer does ob, but is a great gyn and is the only female menopause specialist in Texas (one of very few at least), and us over 40 girls have to realize that's just around the corner! She is very understanding & a great listener. At our age you are at a much higher risk for a lot of health complications from the hormones, but f you chose to stay on bc, I highly recommend Nuvaring. You put it in once a month & forget you're wearing it. You never have to remember to take a pill. I was in a test market group when it came out & used it up until my hubby & I started to try to get pregnant. Trust me, you are a long way away from not being able to get pregnant. After 4 miscarriages & painful awful pregnancies I have no desire to ever get pregnant again, so we use old school condoms plus the sponge for double coverage. I do have to say, that you would even mention abortion in your comments disturbs me. There are hundreds of couples in your neighborhood dying to adopt a baby. Everyone is going overseas because everyone here just gets an abortion. We were blessed to get our daughter from a couple who had 4 children & she missed a few pills- they chose to have her & blessed us with parenthood. Just remember that should the unwanted pregnany happen. Adoption has changed so much in the last 15 years. Good luck & get on some kind of bc!!! :)
Dr. Lauren Michelsen is great and very caring. http://www.eliteobgyn.net/
She is located at Centennial at the corner of 121 and Coit.
I am 41 and have faced similar issues. You might want to try using the method outlined in the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler, MPH. I have successfully used it to get pregnant and as a subsequent form of natural bith control...no pills. The charting and temperatures may sound daunting, but it really takes less than 5 minutes each day. I am now so intune with my body, I can recognize the signs of ovulation and my cycle even if I didn't do the charting. As for an ob/gyn, I highly recommend Dr. Tricia Shimer. I have been with her for nearly 7 years, she is very caring. And although she recently moved her practice from Allen/McKinney to Presbyterian Dallas, I plan to follow her to her new practice. Good Luck.
Dr.Suzzette Boyd in Frisco,great doctor!
I had problems with several forms of birth control and when I decided not to have any more children I had a tubal ligation done. It is out patient surgery-in and out! They go through the belly button so there is no scare. Very easy and problem solved!
Dr. Sarah Robert at Craig-Ranch OB/GYN is wonderful. She is so nice, caring and supportitive. I used Mirena. I liked that I didn't have to worry about taking pills or anything. It last up to 5 years and then you can redo it, same day. So surgical procedure. And I personally do not want nor like the idea of having my tubes tied. It is so, final. Anyways, just thought I would share. Good luck.
I have a great OB-gyn. Her name is Sean Allison Sadler. Her office is at the McKinney Hospitol. Her no. is ###-###-####. She is by far the best doctor I've had. She has even become my running partner.
Good luck,
M.
I go to Dr. Bruce Rajala at Allen Presby and really like him. He's got great bedside manner and easy to talk to.
I have had the Mirena IUD for 3 years and love it. I've had no problems at all. It's great because I don't have a period and I don't have to worry about remembering a pill everyday.
Yes you can still get pregnant at 42...and i would recommend Dr. Shea Joyner
I have a great ob/gyn however she is at medical city. I use nuvaring and i love it. I also have 4 kiddos. you just put in one ring, then 3 weeks later remove it for your cycle then insert another one. No forgetting and you don't even feel it, nor does my husband (sorry if that's tmi)

If you do not mind the drive to McKinney, North Central Women's Partners is fantastic. Their contact information is 4541 Medical Center Drive | McKinney, TX 75069
###-###-#### | Metro ###-###-#### | Fax ###-###-####. It is an office of all women and it is set up to feel like you are in a spa verses a doctor's office. I would highly recommend any of the doctors there. Their website is http://www.ncwhp.com.

I am a working mom of two boys, two and eight months. Both were delivered by Dr. Banks from NCWHP.
I took pills after my daughter was born, 14 years ago, and they caused me to have extremely high blood pressure so my doctor took me off of them. He recommended an IUD, which has worked well for me. My doctor's wife also uses an IUD, and he said if they were not safe she would not have one. Dr. Mark Bernstien works out of Medical City in Dallas, so a little ways from Allen, but not to bad. ###-###-#### is his office number. There are 4-5 doctors in their practice. Has your husband considered a vasectomy? That is another option since you are not wanting to have more children.
Good luck!
Jen D.-Frisco
I love my OBGYN in McKinney, Dr. Shea Joyner at Craig Ranch OBGYN. There are multiple doctors in the office and they are all wonderful.

As for birth control try Depo Provera, I used it for years but am trying now for a 2nd. It is a shot that last for 3 months! There are many other options besides the pesky pill =) Good luck
I don't know any OB/GYN's in Allen, but Dr. Robert Mathews at Baylor Downtown Dallas is very, very good. He delivered my sons. Also, Dr. Ezell Autrey is great and is at Medical City in Dallas (he did my Hysterectomy). I would suggest getting the Depo shot every 3 months. That way you don't have to remember birth control pills every day. But if you do continue to take the pill, place them on your nightstand with a bottled water and take one before bedtime every night. Good Luck.
I use Craig Ranch OBGYN and have for about 8 years. I love them! Dr. Shimer delivered both my girls and now I have the Mirena IUD. It is so great- I haven't had a period in two years!!!!! When it is time for it to come out, I will have them put in a new one. I used to be very bad at remembering pills, so this was a perfect fit for me. Good Luck.
I second the person who loves Dr. Lauren Michelsen. She's awesome. I've gone to her when I thought I had a breast lump and she also did my TVT surgery (it's a lift so you don't have urinary incontinence). She's sweet and easy to get into and see.
I'm not sure about having children but that said, dh had the non-scalpel vasectomy and said it was a piece of cake. His dread of the date of having it done was worse than HAVING it done. He had it done and walked out of the clinic without issues. I HIGHLY recommend that. I wasn't about to get my tubes tied - no way. I had two kids - it was his turn! :)
Get off the pill and have husband get "snipped". If he thinks it will effect his manhood... nope! My husband got snipped six years ago and did not effect his libido. Thousands of men have gotten snipped and has it dampened their sexuality or whatever ... no. Less expensive ... day surgery... he'll lay up for a day or so... will probably want sex within three days. Go for the V-surgery!
Dear V.:
Yes, you sure can get pregnant at 43! Unless you're in menopause, you CAN get pregnant, regardless of your age. I live in Allen and have a really good OB-GYN. I would highly recommend Dr. Charles Stacy. His office is in the Allen Presby Hospital.
Good Luck.
L. F., Mom of a 12 soon to be 13-year-old girl.
Hi, V.,
How about hubby getting a vasectomy? Mine did, it was fast, easy. Now we never have to worry about birth control.
Good luck to you.

Try Dr. Carol Norton at Richardson Regional. She, her nurse practitioner, Cori Thomas, and her office staff are phenomenal. I had two babies under their care and couldn't have asked for a better experience. Her number is ###-###-####.
If you're still having periods, then you can still get pregnant (One of my grandmothers had her last child at 48!!). There are a lot of birth control options now, so you don't have to take a daily pill.If you watch any TV, you've probably seen the ads for Mirena. I have an OB-GYN that I really like. His office is at Plano Presby (Parker and the Tollway). His name is Briant Herzog, phone ###-###-####. Good luck.
I personally don't have one myself but I would suggest the Mirena vs. the Depo shot. The shot made me bleed the entire 3 mnths I was on it. My OB told me it will go away after my second shot so I did another one and bled again for the entire 3 mnths. I know many others who've had this same experience.
My OB is at Presby of Dallas so probably to far for you but if not, his name is Dr Clark Griffith.

Take Care
If you do not mind going to Medical City Dallas, I use Dr. Oliver and love him. His number is ###-###-####
Have you thought of getting your tubes tied or your husband getting a vasectomy?
V. B., My daughter and I were reading your posting together and she has a suggestion for you (she's terrible about remembering to take her medications, too, so she can relate!). She said to try putting your meds close to something you do every day, like near your toothbrush or by your book if you read every night...something like that. Of course, you can't put them anywhere that your little ones might get into them. Hmmm...she doesn't have little ones, so that's not an issue for her. What about asking your husband to remind you? Or getting one of those watches with an alarm on it? My Pops used to have a pill box that had an alarm on it, so that's another option. They having locking pill boxes as well, but knowing most kids, they could break into it faster than you could unlock it! Good luck! I hope something helps! S. & Heather
Get one of those implants or have your tubes tied like I did.

Hello there, I wanted to give you the name of by GYN (she no longer does OB) but I think you would really like her. She is down to earth, very very sweet and will listen to you.....
Dr Kathryn Wood, she's at legacy just past the tollway in Frisco in the Baylor Frisco Building, ###-###-####. It does take a while to get an appt for a check up though b/c she is very popular. They will get you in if you are having a problem though. I'm pretty sure you can still get pregnant at 43. I'm 44 and had the Novasure procedure done (Endometrial Ablation) to help with heavy periods. Dr Wood performed this, outpatient @ Frisco Baylor. I have ZERO bleeding, its been awesome. I know its temporary as the lining will grow back, but I will definitely have it done again if I need to. ANYWAY, she told me that I could still become pregnant, that Novasure doesn't guarantee you can't get pregnant. BUT hubby has a vasectomy after baby #3. so that's no an issue for me.
Anyway, I think you'd really like Dr Wood, I know she will work w/you for the best birth control for you. She is a great lady and her office staff is so nice and friendly and caring.
email me if you have any other question.

GOOD LUCK
I ADORE my CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife) Jeanine Carter at Dr. Banks' offic near the McKinney hospital (Just north of Allen) SHe is so amazingly attentive and actuall takes the time to listen to your concerns rather than get you in and out of the office. She gave me the vaginal ring to try for contraception after my last baby as an alternative to the pill.
