Not Rolling Over

My daughter is 6 months old and she still can not roll over. She can sit up and she seems on target with everything else, except the rolling over. If I put her on her back she just gets angry and screams after awhile. On her stomach she can move taward objects and voices, but no rolling over. She has a check up this week, but I just want to ask others if this is normal, or is something wrong?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well the baby went to the doctor for her 6 month check up and she is just fine. The doctor said she is right on target, not to get upset- all babies are different.

My daughter is 4 months and hates to be on her belly. Her behavior is similar to your son's. I have heard from other parents that some normal children never crawl. They go from sitting to walking with no step in between. Hope this helps!

All children are different. I wouldn't worry if she seems to be doing everything else on track. Sometimes if babies are heavier they have a hard time doing that or don't walk til they are alot older. SOmetimes i even think it's laziness. My daughter never crawled she went right to walking. There are lots of things some babies can do that others never do. Don't stress. Keep communications with your doctor. I'm sure he'll say the same.

I agree with Beth. All children develop at different paces. Our oldest rolled over at three months and our youngest rolled over at almost seven months. The ped. thought our youngest should do things just as early as our oldest, if not earlier. There seemed to be nothing wrong with her to us, but they wanted to refer her to a muscular specialist at 12 months. My husband and I wanted to wait another month and sure enough she started to crawl at tweleve and half months. She walked at eighteen months. Keep in touch with your ped., but if you feel in your heart that she is just not ready, then give her time. They all get to the same place at their own speed. Enjoy this time! It is priceless!!

I can tell you are a great MOM!
I know we can tell you not to worry but great moms always worry!
I think your baby is going to start rolling over before you know it!
I am also a Stay at Home Mom and I live in Port St. Lucie.
I have 2 boys (1 1/2 and 14 months!)
Maybe we can meet some time.

I agree with the other responses. Also, if your baby has always been on her back, for sleep, naps, etc, this may delay her rolling over. Keep her on her stomach when she's awake (sounds like she prefers it anyway) The more she's on her stomach (as opposed to in a swing or bouncy seat, etc. ) the faster she will develop muscles needed to roll over and crawl. Try putting her on her tummy (and maybe alternate her to her back for short periods) on the bed while you are folding laundry there, etc. Sometimes it's a little easier to roll on a surface that gives a little...

Hi Jaqueline;

I absolutely agree with all this advice given... THere isn't a need to worry unless you really think that it is a problem... I'll give you a little example. My cousin was pregnant the same time i was and we had our babies 6 days apart... My son is very active he rolled over at 4 months and crawled at 8 1/2 months... Her daughter (they are both now 10 months) still hasn't rolled over... It is a matter of exposure to things... sure your baby doesn't like tummy time but it is important and if she doesn't roll over just know that babies do things at different times and like what was said earlier some babies just don't do things because they don't like to ... I wouldn't worry about it but express your concerns with her doctor I am sure that she is fine though
