Not Napping at Daycare

My son is struggling with taking naps at daycare. We recently bought Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby and have been using that to help him sleep at night. It is working his nights are better now.
My son goes to daycare Mon. Wed and Fri and is at our house with Grandma Tues & Thurs.
When he is at home he will take two to three hour naps a day, but at daycare he might take two 30 minute naps. Today he only took ONE 30 min nap. He then comes home and is exhausted. We put him down early, tonight 6:00 pm and he goes to sleep fine and only wakes once during the night.
I am just worried that he suffers from sleep deprivation on the days he's at daycare.
Any advice for how to help him at daycare?

Hello S..
I have a 7 month old baby girl. I was having trouble getting her to take her naps with out screaming till she fell asleep. One day about 3 weeks ago, I tried to put her down for a nap, she was relentlessly fighting the nap. So I took her out of the crib, spread a blanket out on the floor, and wrapped her up like a burrito. Put her back in her crib on her belly, and she went right to sleep. Ever since I have had no more troubles getting her to take naps. I just wrap her up and she goes right to sleep. I was amazed that this worked, my husband and I laugh about how it's the simple things you never think of that end up working the best. Maybe your son doesn't feel secure enough at daycare to let him self rest, like he does at home. Swaddling a baby in a blanket makes them feel more secure. So have the daycare try that. Good luck AmyZ

Hi S.,

I know it's very frustrating but the same thing happened to us and I was told it's normal for some kids to not sleep well at daycare. She is one now and is sleeping better. I feel like she is making up her sleep when she is home (also only goes to daycare 3 days). Good luck, we know how hard the evenings are with a baby that has only slept 30 minutes all day long!!

Hi S.,
Have you talked to your daycare provider about this? Is it a center or at a home? Our daughter started daycare at 2 1/2 months old in someone's home. I gave her a detailed sleep schedule that included my nap routine and told her this is what I wanted done. (making the naptime routine simple and short helps) When my daughter was almost 1 I started noticing that she was really tired when I picked her up each afternoon. After questioning her assistant I realized the provider decided to change things without my consent. I quickly found a new daycare until I was able to work from home. My daughter needed to be alone in her own room that was darkened without tons of noise which was discussed at the first interview. If the daycare isn't putting your daughter down at the right times she won't be able to sleep. If all else fails, find a new daycare. Perhaps a small one out of someone's home. Good luck and remember, you are paying the daycare to do what YOU want.
Sincerely,
L.
