I'm 40 too and my mom just brought up menopause with me. Have you considered that? Not something I was quite ready to think about.
Yes, I know I need to talk to my doctor, but I was hoping for a little info from you gals, first. I had my first and only child in 2007, and I am now 40. Before I got pregnant I always had heavy periods, and I have a history of endometriosis (no issues with that since the 90s). After going on the pill (1,000 years ago), my periods were about 3-5 days long with the first and last day being pretty light. So, my situation now is that I don't think I have had a period in over a year. I take the BCP religiously and never skip, but I never have any blood during the time I should be having my period. Has this happened to anyone? I know BCPs can make your periods lighter, but are there any of you who never have a period at all? Is it possible I am bleeding so lightly that nothing ever makes it out? I used to see a gynecologist, but since we moved a year ago, I ended up just seeing my internist, and he did my Pap and exam in November. I did tell him I hadn't been having periods, but he didn't seem concerned. I guess I'm just wondering if I should be, or if I should go with the flow (no pun intended!). Thanks, ladies!

After the birth of my second child I went on BCP's and when I went off them over a year later, my periods had just stopped like your's. I went to the doctor and he said sometimes the hormones shut down the overies. I was trying to get pregnant and he said I could either have fertility shots or just shots of hormones to get my overies to work again. I didn't want mutlipals so I went with the plain shots and had to go in each month for a blood pregnancy test and then a shot. After almost 2 years of doing this I had my period come on it's own twice and the third month I was pregnant with my youngest.
You probably will want to be checked out by a doctor to make sure that all is ok.
Do take a break with your pills or do you keep taking them throughout the month? If so, then you won't get your period.
It is hard to say....The BCP could be contributing to it but checking your hormone levels with your doctor will give you the answer. :)
I took bcp in my late twenties and early thirties and had periods only occasionally while on them. Off pills, I'm pretty regular.
It's likely that you are perimenopausal (at least that was the case for my mother), which means that in combination with the BCP your homones are lessening, but call your OBGYN- they are the only ones who can really answer. Why would your internist do your pap? Also, November was 6 months ago... lots can change in that time.
.
I went without periods like that for years. It was because of my endometriosis.
I was forming blood, just not on the inside of my uterus, so it couldn't come out. I was a mess.
Anyway, follow up with a good OB/GYN. That's the only way you'll know what's going on.
Best wishes.
