Wow, you all are great! Thank you so much for your responses. I feel better knowing that some of you didn't feel your babies moving for quite sometime, as well. I don't think I'm "overweight." I'm 5' 5" and weigh 160 (I've gained almost 20 lbs in the pregnancy so far), but then again, I wouldn't call that "skinny" either. I feel like a whale. One person responded that maybe he'll be as laid back on the outside as he is on the inside--hope you're right. Thanks, thanks, thanks!!!

How exciting to be pregnant at 40! I had my last one at nearly 39...Anyway, you probably are feeling the baby but just don't recognize the sensation. Mine always felt like they were sliding around for a while. That's the best way I can describe it.

Congrats on the baby. Don't worry. I actually went to the hospital because I didn't feel them for awhile (I have 2-1/2 yr. old twins) and they were actually moving and I was even having slight contractions and I couldn't feel a thing.
Hope everything goes well for you. I was 43 when I had the twins and had a totally uneventful pregnancy and fine birth (scheduled c-section).

How nice that your OB can do sonograms each visit! That must be very reassuring since you can't feel the movement yet - it shows he is in there moving around, and things are probably ok. If you haven't already just mention it to the OB your next visit. Are you overweight at all or have a little 'spare tire'? (I do...) Typically thinner women feel movement sooner and heavier it takes a little longer. The position of your placenta may also be affecting your ability to feel - if its anterior, thats one more layer your baby has to kick through to feel movement up front. Depending on baby's position, the movement may feel different - maybe your little one has been kicking at your bladder or back instead of your belly. Also first pregnancies it sometimes just takes longer, and you may not recognize what you are supposed to feel, plus this early you might not be able to feel it every day anyway. It took several weeks after I first really felt something before I'd feel it every day, much less several times a day. Night time is probably the best time to try and pay attention - as you move around all day the motion is soothing to baby and they tend to sleep during the day and are more active at night. After dinner lay down on your left side and relax. When I'd have to make a 3am potty run, if I had a drink after, he'd really start moving, so try it next time nature calls in the middle of the night. I'm sure before long you'll be feeling your little swimmer. Congratulations!

Congratulations on your little boy. Maybe your little guy is just very content to be calm. I remember my second didn't move very much, and it would worry me too. But he was/is fine. But he certainly reflects the way he was in the womb. He's always calm and quiet! Maybe that's just it! :)

Are you swollen? I was very swollen at that the end and didn't feel as much. Did the doctors say that everything was OK? Did they measure the baby is it a smaller baby?

Just to let you know, I to did not feel anything for a long long time. What I did finally feel was that my baby was hiccuping. For the longest time I thought something bad was happening and then it occured to me what it was and then she did it all of the time. The thing is, I never had any of the classic signs that you read or hear about. I am glad to hear you are not alarmed. When you least expect it, then you will feel it. I saw more belly movement than I felt.

if your doctor is not concerned, i wouldnt be concerned either. did you feel the baby move when you had the sonograms done? im not trying to sound rude to the other comments, but i would NOT get the baby monitor from walmart (or other stores that carry them). we have had alot of ups and downs with pregnancies and my doctor told me that it was not worth the money to buy the monitor because with such a small monitor like that you wouldnt be able to hear anything until around 32-35 weeks... and then its about time to deliver.... also, are you overweight at all? i know im a big girl, and i couldnt feel any movement with my first child... good luck!

Have you mentioned this to your doctor? With my 1st child, my doctor had me checking for movement every night. At night is when you notice the most movement.

If all dr. visits reveal the baby is healthy, just relax and that baby will be moving soon. Maybe he's just a little calm guy. Congratulations!

I really ahve no idea because i am a mother of 3 and all of my children were very active. If you see him moving and his heart beat is strong i wouldn't think there is anything to worry about. Have you ever tried to make him move maually by pushing on your tummy? I used to do that to my babies so that their dad could feelt them moving around. They didn't always ove for him, but most of the time they did.

During my first pregnancy I felt very little movement. Most times the doctor had to have me drink some orange juice before my sonograms. Otherwise my son just lay there barely moving. Nothing was wrong with my son and he is healthy to this day and he turns 20 in 11 days. My second pregnancy was nothing but movement. That produced a healthy girl who is still healthy and 19 years old.

Some babies arn't as active as others and if he's small he may not give a big impact. Don't worry. By 40wks you'll feel something, lol.

You may want to get one of those fetal monitors at Walmart, Target, Baby Depot or Baby's R' Us: Basically it amplifies the babies heartbeat and movements so you can hear them . . . we had difficult pregnancies and they helped calm my nerves. When you buy them you get headphones for you as well as a little speaker to hold against your tummy in case you want to play music or your guys voices to your baby. I hope this helps and I pray your pregnancy goes well.

you are right, do not be alarmed. i often worried about that too when i was pregnant, i found that drinking alittle coke would get him going, alittle sugar also. you might not be drinking caffeine or sugar with your pregnancy, but just for curiousity i don't think alittle caffeine or sugar would hurt him one time.

Don't worry! I did the same thing. My cat would sit on my lap and would stare at my tummy. He could feel my baby move before I could! It will happen. I was 36 when I had my son so don't worry! Nothing is wrong.

Hey C.! I had the same thing happen with my third pregnancy! I felt my first baby flutters at 15 weeks and my second child around 20, but with my thrid baby! kind of freaked out a little because I didn't feel her until about that time! I think a lot of it is the postioning of the baby and their times of activity. For my third little one she was most active when I was asleep at night and being exhausted from the demands of the day I would sleep through it! You'll feel those sweet little movements all too soon! Good Luck!

So long ago (I'm 59 now!!) I had the same problem, back when they didn't have all the abilities to do the sonograms. But I had two healthy boys (now 32 & 25). Come to find out my uterus was too small for them to move around. So, if your doctor sees your little one every visit & she isn't concerned I would say don't worry either. Just enjoy the miracle of babies. They move around plenty when they get here!!

First baby? My guess is you'll feel something any day now! In the meantime, listen to your dr. - if she says there is nothing to worry about, then don't! Fretting over it may cause you to miss out on this wonderful time between morning sickness and beached-whale-ness! He's probably just a mellow personality, considerate in not wanting to bother you. Good luck and let us all know when that little guy starts movin' and shakin'!

I am the mosther of seven. Some kids are real go getters. They start kicking from day one and it can get so bad that you will not be able to sleep. If your doctor says the baby is alive and well...TRUST THEM! Being fretfull is only going to make you feel bad. Relax. Enjoy this one!

Personally, I think you need to jump for joy. :) I know that it is probably quite concerning for you, but you will be uncomfortable enough soon. My son was so active in vitro I never got any rest. Maybe this means your child is going to be docile and easy going. Good luck!
