No More Nap at 2.5??

My son, who is now 2.5 years, has just started skipping naps. He will play quietly in his room, but is no longer sleeping. At what age does the nap naturally end?? I'm thinking this is a little early, but not sure. He has always been a great sleeper, sleeping 11-12 hours/night and taking a 1.5-2 hour nap. Perhaps he suddenly doesn't need as much sleep??

What can I do next?

My son did the same thing around that age. I wouldn't bother going in the room and keep putting him in bed. He would sometimes eventually go to bed himself. After awhile he went back to taking naps. He is 3 1/2 and still take a nap anywhere from 1-23 hours (depends on how tired he is).

Good luck....

Different kids require different things. My sister and I are 7 years apart. With me I could always take a nap, but if I slept too long it could affect how I slept at night. My sister stopped taking naps at 1 1/2. She would do the same thing just play quietly during the time. I wouldn't be concerned about him not napping.

If he was in daycare they'd push a nap til 4 years old. What time is he waking up and what is his morning like? If it's slow and easy going inside the house he won't nap. If you take him outside for fresh air and let him burn some energy he'd probaly take a great nap for you. I use to work at a home daycare and this was our number one way to get the kids ready for nap, we made sure they always had plenty of running around outside time. They all were required to take a nap until they were 4 years old.

I have a daughter who is 2.5 and does skip naps. It seems to depend who is giving her the nap. At home with just mommy it varies. She will go play in her room nicely for almost 2 hrs but sometimes doesn't sleep. Today for some reason, she fell asleep about 1.5 hrs. When dad is home w/her she naps 2 hrs. At the babysitter, she will nap 3 hrs a day. She is starting a newdaycare soon so I wonder how naps will go there. I find if she doesn't nap bedtime is much earlier, when she does nap bedtime gets harder like tonight it's 10:30 and she is still yelling for me up there usually in bed about 8:15 and asleep by 9. I'm hoping the naps return again soon!

I run a small in home daycare and every child is different my son who is now 4 stopped taking naps at about 2 1/2 ever since then i make him lay down with his animals and watch cartoons or a movie for a bout an hour and 1/2 and some days he sleeps but most he just lays there quietly on the other hand i have a 4 year old boy in daycare who still naps everyday he lays down with a book and falls asleep almost everyday and still sleeps at night so every child is different but if you are noticing him getting crabby and tired before bed try laying him down with a movie or a book or just continue the quiet playing if he is doing good.
I hope this helps
