No More Kids!!

Ok, this is kinda personal, but I need advice. I have two girls, 5yrs and 9 months old. My husband and I are both content with our family size, and don't want anymore children. So the problem is not getting pregnant again. Of course I know about contraceptives, but it's hard for me to remember to take my pill everyday. And then to have to do that for the next like 20 years?! I'm not that disciplined! When I had my last daughter they kept asking me if I wanted my tubes tied. I haden't ever thought of doing that, so I declined. And that's not something I'd like to go through now. I've heard some horror stories behind it. And of course my husband will absolutely not have the male procedure done. So what do we do? I don't want to get pregnant again, but taking contraceptives forever seems... I don't know, it just seems like a long time to go without any "oops." What's a girl to do?

What can I do next?

I use the NuvaRing. You said that you don't like the idea of being on contraceptives forever, but it is really simple. I had the same problem with remembering to take the pill so my dr. suggested the "ring". You put it in and three weeks later you remove it to have your cycle. A week later put a new one in and your good to go for another three weeks. You can't feel it and best of all... no remembering every day.

Hi L..
I have been in your shoes. I have an 8 yr. old and a 2 1/2 yr old. Now my husband and I have gone back and forth on having more, but in the mean time I have been on Merina IUD. I lasts for 5 years and is reversiable. That way if you do ever change your mind you can. You also don't have to worry about taking something everyday or even once a month. It's 5 yr. plan. Once the five years is up you replace it with a new one. Your Doctor can check it every year for your yearly and you can checkit yourself, to make sure it's still there. I love it and have been using it since my youngest was six weeks old. I had my doctor put it in at my 6 week check-up. You can do it anytime. I would ask your doctor for more info if you are serious abolut it and don't want your tubes tied. I hope this helped. If you have anynore questions about it, please feel free to contact me. Good luck.- M.

Have you thought about an IUD (Intra Uterine Devices)? I have one and love it... the one I have is good for 5 years but there is also one that is good for 10.Here is a good website about it http://www.mirena-us.com/howmirenaworks.html?c=S1&WT....

Hope this helps!!

I would highly recommend Mirena. It's an IUD and lasts for 5 years. I am currently using it and love it, don't feel anything. My husband sometimes tells me he can feel the strings, but it's not painful.

Well, my husband and i were in the same situation...kind of. I was taken off the pill because my bp was up. I was about to turn 40...yes 40, lol! The dr. recommened either I get my tubes tied or Jim have a vasectomy. Of course, like your husband he refused. I had already had 2 c-sections and refused to have surgery again. So he said he'd count the days! WELL....now we have 3 children 11, 10 and a 10 mos. old! :) I had another c-section and my tubes tied right there after delivering. I've had no problems what so ever so far. I had heard stories too but I guess I'm lucky. If you hubby is refusing to do it and you are SURE you dont' want anymore and don't want to go on the pill I'd say get your tubes tied. You may be lucky like me and not have any problems. Better to do that than get pg again if you don't want to. If not, you'll have to go back on the pill. I've heard it's a pretty easy outpatient procedure.

Good luck in your decision. Just remember just because others have had problems w/getting their tubes tied doesn't mean you will.

You can ask your doctor about getting an IUD. I had one a while ago until we wanted to have another baby. There are ones for 5 and 10 years. They put it in your uterus during a visit. You will cramp for a while and a few months during your period it may cramp and bleed a bit heavier then be fine. I am actually getting a tubal in a few weeks. If you have any more questions, e-mail me at ____@____.com.

There are SOOOO many other options than taking a daily pill or getting your tubes tied. You should talk to your doctor about what is right for you. Personally I'm a fan of the IUD which lasts for years and you never have to think about it. There are also less invasive permanent procedures like essure. Talk to your doctor about your wishes and they are more than happy to offer advice! Good luck!
