HELP! Where can I purchase a breast shield that does not draw your nipple into the nipple holder? My mom said she had one, that was glass, and there was a space between the glass and the nipple the baby sucks on, that collected the milk.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I have seen the nipple shields from Target and medela...not what I am looking for.
Thank you Rosie...however my mom knows exactly what she is talking about. Her memory is in tact! I have found what I am looking for at flowritebaby.com. It is not glass, as I figured, but none the less I found one. My sister used the nipple shield, and so did my niece, however it has since been lost. The nipple shield allows your nipple to toughen up, in order to be able to nurse. It also helps bleeding cracked nipples to heal, in order to resume nursing. Some moms memories, maybe fading, but my mommy is RIGHT ON!

I have no idea where to get one, but have you tried contacting your local LaLeche League chapter to see if maybe someone there could help you out with finding what you're looking for?
When I was nursing I used the Medela one from Babies R Us - but that won't be what you are looking for since it does draw your nipple in.

I got mine from the lactation consultants at our hospital. Not glass however. There was about an inch's worth of space between nipple and baby's mouth.

Yes, contact LaLeche League. They will know what is available. Not sure what your mom remembers, and remember, it was a long time ago, so she may not be remembering correctly. Your nipples do need some stimulation in order to continue making milk. If you are wanting the shield, and at work we call them nipple shields, to help your sore nipples, this is not the answer. With nipple shields, baby mostly sucks on the hard plastic, but does also get some of your nipple. Milk does then collect in the hard plastic nipple the baby is mainly sucking on. I haven't seen those from Target you are talking about, and can't remember the name of the brand our hospital now uses, as the Medela one was on back order, I think. You won't find anything in glass anymore because of the safety risks.
Good luck. Defnitely contact La Leche League or your hospital's Lactation Consultant for any help. And remember, with time, our memory can differ from reality.
