Night Out

What is your ideal night out with friends? My husband goes out to the bar, has a few drinks to chill with his friends. My ideal night is taking the kids to a friend’s house, eating dinner and hanging out. Depending on the friend we may have a glass of wine. I have noticed that as I get older the more the whole “lets go to the bar” is unappealing-am I alone?

What can I do next?

I'm only 28, but for YEARS I've hated the bar scene. Too much immature drama! My husband and I went bar hopping on New Years Eve this year, and WHOA did I feel like I was babysitting, LOL!!

I love going out to dinner either alone with my husband or with our best friends, with or without kids, or going over to each other's houses :)

I wonder sometimes if I am just a little old lady on the inside b/c I too hate the bar scene. I am so happy to be married and out of that whole deal... My friends seem to think it brings them back to their youth or something and just love to go out when they can. I don't really get the whole drinking and being sick thing...never really have. I would much rather hang out with friends, go to a movie, go out to a nice restaurant, go to a play, a comedy club, hear live music... Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with people drinking but just sitting/standing in a loud bar yelling at people for hours on end - ugh!

Hi, Consuelo:
Have you thought about going to Al-Anon meetings to help you cope with your man going to the bars to unwind?

Have you also thought about getting involved with the Kiwanis Club in your area?
They have socials, fundraising projects, and service projects they do that will help you engage with people who want to do something for their community.

Just a thought.
Good luck.

I like to mix it up. MOST nights, however, for convenience and ease I preferr the night in with friends. Intimate, relaxed, etc.
But i still enjoy haning with our friends at the bar (few and far between) going dancing on "girl's night" (about once a year now - haha!). I don't think you are alone. As we get older our priorities shift and our we don't "need" those places any longer:)

I roadie for a band, so I spend a lot of time in bars and clubs. I have several friends who also go just to hear and see the band. It becomes like a girls night out. Most of us are single, kids grown ect. We get the chance to laugh and dance (exercise) and just spend time together. We are not there to pick up guys but if we meet someone it's not a casual hook-up. We don't drink a lot maybe one or two, then water for the rest of the evening.
I have known the musicians about 30 yrs so this isn't a groupie thing. We are actually friends.
But I do enjoy other forms of getting out. Spending time with friends at their homes or mine, going to museums, shopping...

My husband is the same way--meet buddies at a bar or on the golf course, drink and smoke cigars. With my friends, I don't mind going to dinner or sitting at a bar. I do that so rarely that I consider it killing multiple birds.... I get myself all pretty and enjoy raising a few unfamiliar eyebrows. Then, I tell my husband all about it, and we laugh.

I've never really been a "bar" person. We went out last night to a comedy club and then went to the Yard House. It's a restaraunt, but has like 100+ types of beer. Though it had a bar feeling it was pretty fun. I was happy when we left. It was just too loud in there for me.
