Newborn Gas Remedies

I have a newborn boy who is nearly 3 weeks old. He is having some gas issues during the night hours. Please understand he does not have colic, he does not cry or scream, just grunts with a little fussing. I use Mylicon, gripe water, I have elevated his bed, he burps, and we hold him upright for about 20 minutes after his feedings. He is not constipaed, his stooling is appropriate. To be honest, I wouldn't even mind the noises he makes, except 2 reasons: he is right by my bed and I can't sleep, and we end up putting him in bed with us so that he does not get so loud that he wakes our 2 year old son. So, if he were in his room, I wouldn't even hear him, but that's not the situation. I do hear him, and I don't want him uncomfortable if I can avoid it, so I'm asking if there is something I haven't tried yet. Am I missing something, or could someone just tell me a little something that worked for them. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hello A.,

Congratulations on your 3-week old! are you using formula or breastfeeding? if you're using formula, then it's time to find one that doesn't give him so much gas. Good luck! ~C.~

We had to pump our 1st daughters legs to help her pass gas. Drops did not work for us.

I'm not sure if you are nursing him or bottle feeding... I know sometimes when nursing some of the foods are little harsh on their little tummies... I would rub my babies tummy in a circular motion when they were upset... I wouldn't eat spicy foods, very bland at first when I was nursing... If it's bottle formula, well, I would rub the tummy...

Hi A.,

I know you said you have used gripe water but their are different types of gripe water. Not sure which one you used but I found one called Colic Calm which has all natural ingredients. I used it and it works great for my son. Go to Colic Calm website and read about it and also the testimonies. www.coliccalm.com

If he doesn't seem to feel bad , and isn't crying , I think just makeing sure he burps after he eats, that you have no worries. I doubt that he would wake your 2 year old. Maybe you could move his crib where it isn't so close to your bed to hear every little noise, but if he is still in the room you'd hear if you were needed. My third child (squeeked) We called him our little squeeker, but he was fine, and wasn't hurting, so we just ignored the noise, and everything turned out o.k.

I know exactly how you feel my youngest had a lot of gas isses and the only thing that would work is Little Tummies gas drop. You can get them at any walmart, walgreens and also Colic tablets made by Hylands which are all natural.

Good Luck and I hope this helps.

Leg pumping worked best for us too! It was funny, but it worked very well!
