Has Anyone Heard of Gripe Water?

I have recently heard about Gripe Water for helping little tummies. I have been buying Gerber Gas Drops, but it doesn't seem to be helping, and my son (@6 months) has such bad gas pains at night that he wakes up 3-6 times and needs comforting. Nursing helps, but that's me getting up 3-6 times to do so and having little to no sleep. Does anyone know about Gripe Water or talked to their pediatricians about it? Just inquiring. Thanks in advance for your feedback and thoughts.

I know about Gripe Water. I was raised in Canada and it is a Canadian product. I had my family ship it to me in multiples for both my babies. In Canada you can get it in any drugstore or Walmart or anywhere baby products are sold. So far I have not seen it anywhere in the USA.

Yes, I've heard of it. My sister's son had all kinds of tummy troubles, so she used Gripe Water. She said it worked very well.

Hope this helped!

I absolutely swear by Gripe Water! In fact, I give it as a baby shower gift b/c I love it so much. It is all natural. You can actually hear the gas bubbles being "zapped" after you give it to baby. My son liked the taste of it as well. I know that it can be difficult to find. I had to get mine at a compounding pharmacy in Euless.
Hope this helps!

I have used it with my daughter when Mylicon drops seemed like a waste of time. I think it works well and it is all natural. You either have to buy it online or at a natural food store though.

I always had good luck with Mylecon. Hope that helps! I ran out to the grocery store for my first bottle at about 9pm. It's pretty easy to find.

I have been using Gripe Water for my 6-week old. It seems to work o.k. but it tastes yucky (smells like fennel seed) so it is hard to get her to take it. I also use the Tummy Ease gas drops and she takes those no problem and it is alot cheaper than the Gripe Water (it is ~ $15 a bottle). I am breastfeeing exclusively and I cut dairy out of my diet (at the recommendation of friend's) and it worked like magic. She used to scream from gas pain for 1 to 4 hours at night and as soon as I cut diary out she doesn't do that at all. I still use the Tummy Ease drops though...just in case. According to my pediatrian you can also use the full 0.6 mL does when it is close to his fussy time. I usually do this starting around 7 pm and through the night and it has worked.

Good luck!

Gripe water worked wonders for my little one when other "name brand" gas/tummy relievers didn't help. It's supposedly harmless. I think all babies respond differently to different things, but I'd recommend trying it. It just might help! God bless!

Hi A.,
Unfortunately, I don't know anything about Gripe Water. I am writing to you because you sounded as though you might be seeking some speech work. I am a speech-language pathologist. I have a parent-child program at which we work on the children's individual communication objectives in the small group setting. The response (the program started in September) has been great, and I am interviewing for a Saturday morning position (one or two hours). Although the web site is currently under construction, there is some information about the program posted (www.startherapyprograms.com).
If you think this is an option you would like to explore, please let me know. I have had a private practice since my first child was born. Now that my youngest is in preschool, I have been able to start this program. I completely understand how important it is to be able to be with your child.
Good luck with the Gripe Water! Please let me know if you might be interested in learning about S.T.A.R. Music.

Hi A.
Yes, I have heard about it and it works!
I know you can buy it at some stores pre made. I actually made a home version for my baby when he was about 2 months old. It was 8 oz of water, 1 tsp sugar and a pinch of baking soda. The baking soda is what helps them burp. They caution not to put too much baking soda in as too much can be dangerous....
hope that helps.

for one thing ur wasting ur money completely on the gas supplement its a placebo. i have used gripe water and its all homeopathic which i like best. u can also try a few other remeidies like a dash of cumin in warm water bottle and wrappng the little one up tight in a blanket bouncing them around to get the gas up or even a little bit of warm chammomile tea in bottle. if ur little one cries a lot when gassy and is hard to calm own try using a white noise, vacuum running or fan above stove while ur carrying ur precious one bundle tightly in a warm blanket doing shhing sounds in their ears. this one iea here might be hard for u to understan but if u hold ur baby up as if they were lyeing down w/one hand on the base of their head and the other on their bottom rotate their body going in different drections and pushing their legs up into their tummy for a minute or so and then place them on ur shoulder to burp them using ur hand on their back patting upwards to get the gas out or u can hold them against ur chest w/them facing outwards and wrapping their legs indian stlyle pushing them up w/knees into their tummy bouncing aroun until the gas comes out in either direction. i hope this works its done wonders for me..

Hi A.,
Yes I have heard and used gripe water. I have 4 children the youngest is almost 2. My husband is from Europe andit is a very common practice to use it for gas in babies. I had trouble findingit though, and he finally found some at an African market in Garland, however, I have a friend that ordered some from a UK goods website. I heard that here was also an English shop in Grapevine that might carry it. I will see if I can find out more info for you, but you could do a web-search with the above info. I worked great for all of my kids, it is worth buying and trying if you can.
Good luck.

Hello
We used Gripewater on our baby and it was incredible, the results will astound you. We did not talk to our Pediatrician since the ingredients looked harmless. I have suggested it to all my friends.

I have used Gripe Water with my 3 month old several times. It is an all natural liquid that is mainly fennel and ginger. I have had as much success with boiling a teaspoon of fennel seed in water, letting it cool and feeding my son about an ounce of this "tea". My mom told me to try that as she did that for me as a child.

Hi A.,

When my now three year old daughter was an infant , we lived in England at the time, and Grip Water was the first and only traditional remedy given to babies with gas problems.

She was suffering so much that I can relate what a nightmare it is for you at the moment and you have all my sympathy.

Grip water is completely safe, my English midwife prescribed it and it worked wonders! I wish the same for you and your little one.

We used Gripe Water and thought it worked much better than Milacon drops. Our son was cholicy for 3 months, which is when we started using it. Then at 5 months when he started jar baby food, he had bad gas pains at night...so we fed him earlier in the evening. That lasted a month or more. Now at 15 months, he is on table food, but still gassy all day long, and sometimes in the middle of the night too. We haven't used Gripe Water since about 7 months, but now that I think about it...maybe we should. It does help, but not complelety....some babies just have irritable digestive systems.

I've seen it, but never heard of anyone using it. I've heard that chamommile tea helps soothe tummies. Just be sure it's decaf. My sister used it to soother her coliky baby. But, if he's breastfed exclusively, it seems strange for him to have such bad gas problems at 6 mo. You might try to remember what you're eating. Broccoli, beans, caffeine or dairy could all cause him tummy issues. If he's getting any formula, you might switch to lactose-free. I have a friend whose daughter had lots of screaming and gas pain. It went away instantly when she switched to lactose-free formula.

This may be obvious, but don't forget to try eliminating things from your diet that may be bothering him since you are breastfeeding.

Hi A.. I know EXACTLY what you are going through I have a 6 month old baby boy as well Karson and he had the same thing for months, I personally never tried gripe Water but a friend of mine that has triplets did and she said it really worked for all 3 of hers. You might want to back sure that is it gas/colic and not something else cause Karson also had a Urinary Tract Infection as well but moving Anderson's legs like a bike really helps and I know you mentioned the your nurse but if you decide to go to formula there is Gentle Ease by Enfamil that really helped Karson plus Dr browns bottles and use gas drops "little tummies" right before you feed him everytime helped a lot as well. You might want to go to google and type in Colic and there a lot of pointers on there that really has helped me too. Be patient and loving towards Anderson, I know there is a lot of sleepless nights and It's hard but It too shall pass.If I think of anything else i'll let you know.
Good Luck.

Hi A.,
My daughter had really bad gas/colic when she was about 3 months old. My family is from England where I think Gripe Water originated, so of course my Mom told me to try it. She had used it on me and my sister and it really helped. I ordered some online, because I couldn't find it anywhere locally and when I tried it it did not work for us. Not to say that it won't work for you - It may be worth a try just to get you all some sleep. Nursing helped my daughter as well so I just did that until she grew out of it at about 4 months. It's very frustrating because sometimes nothing helps to relieve them. Hope this helps a little.
