New Lenses in Existing Frames?

I just got new glasses and was thinking about having a spare pair. I already have old frames that I like... does anyone know how much it typically costs to just get my new Rx in the old frames? I saw one online site that does it. Any recommendations from personal experience?
Thanks!

I have gotten new lenses in the same frames for probably 10 years or more. The only thing I have ever had to pay for is the lenses themselves, since the prescription for them usually changes too. But I go to a local eye doctor, and have never ordered online, in case that matters.

It's just the cost of the lenses, typically. I've done that a couple of times. Sometimes they will say the frames are too old/not sturdy/not a type they work with, but usually it's just a matter of cutting the lenses to match.

I plan to get new lenses in my old frames. The optical place can do it but they will not guarantee the frames or that they will not break by removing and replacing the lenses. My frames are over 10 yrs old though. I am also going to get new nose guides/pads or whatever those things are called. I wil only have to pay for the lenses and related. No frame fees. The lenses themselves will be insured.

I had mine done right in house at the eye doctor's office. They have a shop right in house, and they were great about accommodating my request. I only paid for the lenses- no extra charges.

Hi...my son recently dropped his glasses at school and didn't know it...they got kicked around and stepped on and a friend found them. One of the lenses was gone (frames were actually ok!) so I took them to an eyeglass store (not where I usually go. Our eye doc wanted a ridiculous amount to replace one lense.) The other place I went is called All About Eyes (I think??) and it cost me $35 for both lenses! I was ecstatic! I am definitely going back there for glasses for him. All they needed was a recent (within the last year) exam w/ your prescription needs on it. Good luck!

It depends on your scrip and your oculist - I get new bifocal lenses put in old frames for about $50.

It depends on your prescription. For mine they said it would be about $100 when I asked at Lenscrafters. I have Progressives as well as need a prisim for my prescription thus the higher cost.

I don't know the cost but I do know that I have been wearing glasses for as long as I can remember and just this week I bought two pairs online at (can I say where?) Eye Buy Direct for an unbelievable price. My daughter had tried them and was happy with them so I gave it a shot and am very happy with my purchase. You do need your prescription but they were extremely quick and very accurate. I don't know that I would know the difference from the glasses I have always bought for 10x the price. They did have a buy one, get one free thing going on if you are interested.

You pay only for the lenses. How much that costs depends on the prescription. I have progressive lenses with a scratch resistant coating and the kind that darken in the son. I can't remember what that's called. They're around $150.

I just did the same thing through Walmart believe it or not. It was easy cheap and I love having my old frames. Hope that helps!

The place I go to is willing to put lenses in the frames for the cost of the lenses no problem.

One better--I often go to thrift stores to sift through their frames. if the frame is sturdy enough for my THICK lens, the doctor at TSO will let me know on the spot. Cheaper and a wider selection than at the clinicians'.

I got the best prices from Sam's Club and Costco when I had to replace my lenses.
