I have a friend who just got her son glasses at Walmart (eye exam done elsewhere) and there was an option to pay $15 for I think an entire year of repair work or replacements for lost glasses. With a toddler, it would be worth it!
I just found out that my 2 year old son needs perscription glasses. My question is, does anyone know the average price for a pair of glasses? I want the best for my son, but the ones I am lookning at getting are almost $500.00 dollars! However they are the bendable kind that are harder to break. He is only 2 and I know if I get him the cheaper frames, I will spend more money fixing them. Please help me! Thank you
I just want to thank everybody for all their responses. I ended getting my sons glasses at See Saw Optical. The reason that they are more expensive is because my son is not covered under vision insurance right now. I will definately shop around more for his back up pair! Thank you all so very much!

I am actually new to the area and looking for a good optomotrist for my 14 year old, he has bi focals and he wants new ones to look good for school, i figured its probably time for a new exam, we have great insurance so it covers everywhere, anyone recomend an office near chandler tempe area?
Your best bet is to check out all the places you're insurance would first cover for both eye exam and glasses. Then, get 2 pairs just in case. In either case, depending on the place you go to, you could get breakage and scratch resistant warranty. I wouldn't spend $500.00 because all he has to do is step on it and that's worse.
Nationwide Vision is good but each office is semi-franchised because the optometrist is the boss there and if you go there, best bet is to go to the headquarters on McKemy. I like Walmart too. My mom usually gets hers at Costco.
I've never spent more than just $40.00 on frames itself. The lenses are what costs more and the additional polycarbonate solutions that are coated with it, then the breakage and scratch resistant warranty.
Good Luck!
Hi K.,
When my son was around that age (he's nine now) the pediatrician informed me that he had a stigmatism. When I took him to the eye doctor he confirmed it but said that normally kids grow out of it. He even suggested that buying glasses would be a waste of money. Today my son has perfect vision. Maybe this is true for your son; your post didn't mention a stigmatism. Good luck!

Good morning K.,
My husband & I were just told that his son needed glasses. We took him to Arizona Pediatric Eye Specialist in Glendale for the exam, and then went and got his glasses at Costco. They didn't have too large of a selection, but we did find a pair made by Unionbay and total, with lenses, it cost us just under $80.00. You can check out Lenscrafters.com and eyemasters.com. Both are running good specials on kids glasses.
Good luck!
I found a wonderful pair at Nationwide...(believe it or not)
They are adorable and will not break...Thank God
They ran around $200 tops
My son got glasses when he was 10 months old and we got them at Target. They were great!!
K.,
First of all do you have health or vision insurance? If you don't, let me know and I can help you out with that and you may not have to pay that much for the more expensive glasses. I hope to talk to you soon.

I have 18 month old twin girls that have been in glasses since they were six months old. Our insurance paid for their first pairs which promptly broke. We replaced them and two months later they broke again. Then the doctor changed the prescription and we got another new pair of glasses which broke two weeks later. I got tired of paying to fix the glasses and we went to See Saw Optical we got them Solo Bambini frames which are only 75 dollars for the frame. The lenses are the expensive part. My girls have successfully both had their glasses for almost six months now with no problems. They're expensive, about 250 dollars with lenses and everything but we replaced the others so many times it ends up being cheaper. They also have several warranties. You get a 90 day warranty that they'll change the lenses for free one time if the doctor changes the prescription, and a one time free change for the lenses if they scratch within six months. We're having a great experience with them.
I use to work for Lenscrafters, and I know they had a kid's program that included lenses and frames that were about $100. This may have changed since then, but I would check into it. They also replaced the frames or lens if they broke for up to 6 months or more? Give them a call and ask...they are really great about taking care of their customers and providing quality prescriptions. Good luck!
Get your son his eye exam (if you haven't already) at a good optometrist or opthamalogist, then take your prescription to Lesco Optical on Scottdale Rd (just south of Thomas on the East side). Glasses are super cheap. My 8 year old daughter needed reading glasses and I was not about to spend a couple hundred dollars for her to lose them. $40! I just got two pair, one regular and one sunglasses, for $85! But they don't do the eye exams. Check it out.
I have also been having trouble getting a referral for my little one to get her eyes checked. She has never had her eyes until she turned 5 and I guess now she can't see well. I would also know how much a pair of eye glasses would cost. It shouldn't be that expensive with insurance.
