Need Your Mattress Review

All natural latex foam may be what you are looking for. It is not cheap. It is hypo allergenic. It is made in Canada and Europe but as far as I know not readily in the US.

Still, 10 years ago when we needed a new mattress I learned that European Sleepworks was a store that sold what I was looking for. They are located at 2966 Adeline Street in Berkeley [###-###-####] and you can check them out online at www.sleepworks.com/ . They sell latex mattresses and mattresses with latex and coils. We have a platform bed so we didn't purchase the box.

Like all mattresses you need to go to the store and check it out before deciding on the one for you - especially when you consider that 1/3 of your life is spent sleeping and that a good mattress lasts 15-20 years.

We purchased our Stearn and Foster mattress set with pillow topper built in almost 2 years ago. We've never slept better! It has the standard coil springs in the box and main mattress with a memory foam pillow top built in. It was immediately comfortable when we tried it in the store and two years later, we still love it. The Tempurpedic mattress was too hard for my taste. I suggest you go to "Sleep Train" and try a variety of different mattresses and find the one that feels best to you. I was quite impressed with the way we were treated at the Blossom Hill, San Jose store. No high pressure sales people, 12 month interest free financing AND if you make a purchase and decide you don't like it once you've slept on it up to 30 days, they'll take it back and let you try something else. A friend of mine exercised that option with no hassle. They'll set up the new bed for you and take away the old set, which is also convenient. Sorry, I can't address "natural". Comfort, and a good night's sleep are more important for me. After trying 3 major stores and every brand we ever heard of, and a few we hadn't, we made our choice. This was our second S & F mattress set. The first one lasted over 20 years before needing replacement (purchase at Breuner's). Before that, we had a Beautyrest which gave out in less than 10 years. We just moved from a waterbed to a real bed and never realized how complicated it was to buy a mattress! We ended up buying a Simmons Beautyrest from SleepTrain (got a lot of freebies thrown in on the deal). But, there is also a website www.us-mattress.com tjat gives alot of detail on how to buy and mattress and how to decide what comfort level is best for you.

We just bought a memory foam mattress from Keetsa that I'm very happy with.

It's less expensive than European Sleepworks and non-toxic, unlike Temperpedic.

we shelled out the money for a Temperpedic and I am so happy we did. I am not sure how "natural" they are but my husband used to have a really bad back and has not had any problems in the last 2.5 years. I also made it through pregnancy without having to prop myself up with a ton of pillows (only one between my legs) and never had any pain or too much trouble sleeping. They are expensive but I really think they are worth it.

We got all our mattresses - from crib on up to Cal King - from Lifekind. They have a variety of natural/organic ones and are the most comfortable ones I have found. (I'm a side sleeper too.) They are made in the US and their customer service is super. Make sure to get some good mattress pads (not vinyl!) since they are pricey and you don't want spills on them. We use the wool pads, which aren't hot & have repelled all stains. Here is their website:

I have to second the recommendation of European Sleep works. Ours in wonderful, and they are all chemical free. I'm a side-sleeper, too, and it is very comfy for me!

I sold furniture for years and got my share of "luxury" mattresses with my employee discount and they all sucked!
I finally got a 100% latex foam mattress with a yummy silk & cotton blend upholstery and it's great for side sleeping! I was MISERABLE in our Stearns & Foster when I s pregnant - it was rock hard and I could feel the coils through the fancy schmancy padding. Latex is naturally inhospitible to dust mites and other critters.
Innerspring mattresses are full of chemicals and hollow inside so they will all eventually sag as the top padding gets compressed down into the coil center. No coils = no sagging and much less motion when someone gets up or rolls over. You will always get body impressions on anything - but regular rotation helps a lot.
FYI-
All mattresses sold in CA are treated with flame retardant chemicals - can't be avoided.
If you do go latex - they do retain your body heat so can be warm to sleep on - be sure to invest in a good quality 100% cotton mattress pad with 100% cotton filling!
All mattress makers have different quality levels - so be sure to ask lots of questions - don't be impressed by a brand name - they all make crappy beds for hotels and all have their version of a Rolls Royce and everything in between. TRy try try them all out!
Ethan Allen carries a great line from KingsDown that is priced very well and they are more environmentally friendly than many others.
