Any one bought one? love it hate it? I decided I hate my sleep number bed and have to replace it. My sleep number bed was a $3000 mistake. I cannot afford another "luxury" mattress. Any suggestions?
Why do I hate it? I didn't realize how uncomfortable it was right away because I was pregnant when we bought it, so I was uncomfortable anyways. I think for people who like a firm mattress its not uncomfortable. But it really does not have a "soft setting" as advertised. It goes really firm, firm, saggy, really saggy. All you are doing is letting air out to make if "soft". Unless you both set your settings to firm, there is a ledge in the middle of the bed that makes it impossible to snuggle. It won't fit a bed frame. Its really just an overpriced air mattress. I have not been able to sleep on my side for quite some time because my shoulder aches from the pressure of my weight after 10 minutes ( I am not overweight). I hate sleeping on my back and being pregnant I can no longer sleep on my stomach. This weekend I slept in a hotel bed and slept on my side all night, my favorite position! I want to be able to sleep on my side again! A spring mattress offers both support where you need it and softness where you want it. Again the soft setting on the sleep number is not soft, just saggy and unsupportive.
We bought one of the memory foam mattresses from Costco, and I LOVE it. I'm 39 weeks pregnant, and can roll over all night long...without waking up my husband. AWESOME. (Another perk - a king size mattress is only about $700. Not too shabby!)
Ouch, sorry to hear how much you spent only to end up unhappy with it.
Years ago, many many years ago, I spent about $1000 on a set and it felt great at first but ended up being way too hard. Thank Heavens the store had a great return policy!! In fact, I HAD to keep it a certain number of days to make sure I didn't like it. They took it back and I got a new softer one and loved it!!
Now we have a Simmons Beautyrest (it has like an extra little mattress sewn on top of the regular mattress); bought it at Kittle's for $1200. It's very comfortable!! (I found my paperwork - bought it in September 2007 and it still feels great!) Only drawback was we had to get all new sheets because it's a much deeper mattress; I think it's 14" and standard depth is 12" or less.

We bought a Nova Foam mattress from Costco (the "bed in a box") a little over 2 years ago, and love it. It was pretty inexpensive (I want to say it was about $700 for the Cal King?) but super comfortable. Unlike the older foam mattresses, the newer ones do not retain heat (my husband is a "hot" sleeper, but he says that this mattress does not seem to retain heat and make him hotter; he sleeps very comfortably on it).
Our mattress previous to this one was a Serta pillow-top mattress, and I'd never buy one of those again. After only a few years, it began to have "troughs" in it where we slept, and of course, the pillow top is not covered under warranty. Our $2000 mattress lasted less than 5 years. We figured that even IF the Nova Foam only lasted 5 years, we would still be way ahead - but so far, it shows no signs of breaking down at all. We've been very pleased.
We just bought my kids the twin mattresses at Costco. Super comfy!
It's funny you mention not wanting to make another big mistake because that happened to us! We spent 4k on a Sterns and Foster. After 4 years, the thing was awful. We didn't realize just how bad of a bed it was until I bought a $500 bed for our guest room --most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on! I replaced my awful Sterns and Foster recently with another "cheap" mattress. I'm so glad I did. I no longer wake every morning with a back ache!
Can't tell you the brands, got the mattress at Carsons.
I bought a mattress at Costco about five years ago and hated it from the instant I got it. There was nothing wrong with the mattress, just the wrong one for me (it was way too firm). I lived with it for two years because what else can you do. Then a friend suggested seeing if Costco would give me a partial credit towards a new one or something so I called and they took the bed back. I got all of my money back - even though the mattress was two years old. They even paid to have a mover come pick up the old mattress, and I didn't have to buy a new one from them. I was amazed at Costco... and will always buy mattresses from there from now on!
Do you think you can add a foam pad to your current mattress? We have the foam on our bed (bubby calls it the marshmellow) and we both sleep well. Well, my husband has sleep issues, so he has never slept well, but sometimes he will sleep through the whole night.
If you can scrape up the $ for another "luxury" mattress, I HIGHLY recommend a latex top mattress from Custom Comfort. We spent over $3k on one (with a 2" topper) about 6 or 7 years ago and it was the best chunk of change we have ever spent. SO comfortable, squishy yet supportive/firm, and even after so many years it's still as comfortable as it was when new. At the time, you were able to purchase the topper separately, so you might want to look into a twin size topper (assuming you have a king bed) for your side of the bed.
How funny, because we bought a sleep number while I was pregnant so I could sleep better on my side and I loved it...
We put it in our guest room and we now have a foam bed.
Have you thought of putting a pillow under your arm for support in the interim?
