I am looking for a good OB/GYN in the Tempe/Mesa area who is familiar with the Fertility Awareness Method and not freaked out about a 40 yr old woman trying to get pregnant. I am a newlywed, have never been married before no kids and we both really want kids. We've only been trying 4 months but I think it would be good just to get started with a doctor. I really want a doctor who is positive and encouraging, not one who will be hitting me with the risks and realities everytime I turn around. I know those are real, but it is not what I want to focus on. Also any thoughts on a good hospital to deliver at? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi, my name is R. Esparza and I am a labor and delivery nurse at Banner Desert Medical Center. I never really read these postings, but thought I would take a look today! Well, my suggestion would be to contact Southwest Women's group and they are compiled with excellent medical professionals who will work with you on conceiving or refer you to specialist that can help. I think all medical professionals will state the risks and complications of having a baby later in life, due to advisement of their malpractice insurance they practice by. I strongly encourage you to deliver at Banner Desert because they have perinatalogists available for consults if problems arises as well as they have an in-house anesthesiologist and all RN's are high-risk certified. We are educated and trained in NRP,BLS and ACLs. If a problem does arise, there is a level 3 NICU available as well a qualified delivery team that consist of neonatologists, nurse practioners, neonatal high risk nurses, and respiratory therapists available immediately. Southwest Women's group is the only group that has an in-house doctor available 24/7. If you have any questions please contact me. I hope this helps. As a nurse, I will not work in Labor and Delivery at any other hospital then Banner Desert Medical Center.

R..

Dr. Farra Swan ###-###-####. She is a Naturopath doing Obstetrics & Pediatrics. She has been delivering babies for like 26 years or more. She is amazing! I am 35 & just had my 1st baby. I chose not to have any testing & the issue of my age never came up again. She is also in Tempe, so bonus! Best of luck to you!

Hi K.. Congratulations on your marriage! My OBGYN is Dr. Steven Linnerson. His office (Contemporary Care for Women) is located in Tempe on McClintock/Guadalupe. I don't know if he is familiar with the fertility awareness method, butIi think he is fantastic. It would be worth a phone call to find out. The number to the office is ###-###-#### or you can check out their website at www.careforwomen.net

Best of Luck!!

Mine are in Ahwatukee, but I LOVED Southwest Women's Care - I think they are at 40th and Frye now. Dr. Kimbro is the best! Dr. Grayson, Dr. Wilson and others in her practice are great, too. I just found Dr. Crawford at 4530 Ray in Ahwatukee and he's gotten high ratings, too, from people I know firsthand who've been with him for years. If it makes you feel any better, I had my first at 38 and my second at 43. They are a joy....most of the time. The worst part is that it takes your body longer to bounce back and you do tire easier and need to really listen to your body. But it can be done in a healthy way.

Mine is in Gilbert (not too bad for you). Dr. Falk. Comprehensive Women's Healthcare. He delivered both my children along with many of my friend's children. I think he would meet your needs!! Banner Desert Samaritan is close to you too! Wonderful hospital! Good luck!

If you'd really like to focus on natural conception, I would talk to a midwife. Mary the Midwife (I can't ever remember her last name) is a wonderful woman. http://marythemidwife.com/. She can also refer you to other midwifes and doctors who would be more supportive.

Dr. Christine Brass-Jone is a medical doctor, plus she has acupunturists and other alternative practitioners in her office. They do have fertility expertise as well. I did not go to her for fertility, but she is my current OB and I really like her. Her website is www.trueharmonywellness.com

I turned 40 just after the birth of my most recent child, but I had a midwife, so I am not of help to you in finding a doctor. You might talk to a naturopathic doctor and find out what OB/GYN they would recommend. I have a lot of friends that have had babies after 40. All without any problems.
