Need Info on Dr. Rao

My son is PDD - NOS, and we were referred to Dr. Rao by his psychiatrist. I'm thrilled to have the opportunity. You have to keep a very open mind when you are parenting a child on the spectrum. Some treatments that sound very strange and different can actually make huge differences in your child's behaviors and in the way he is able to express himself. Dr. Rao is board-certified in Allergy/Immunology, and he is an Autism specialist. Your insurance should at least pay for the visits. He likes to see the parents first, and then the child attends the next visit. Good luck and God bless!

If you are speaking of the Dr. Rao in Mesquite, then he is GREAT, my daughter and I used to go to him a few years ago, but then I moved out to Kaufman and had to find another doctor. Dr. Rao is wonderful, he is the one that diagnosed me with migraines after going to SEVERAL doctors before that thought I was just crazy. he really takes his time with each patient. I would definately recommend Dr. Rao =)

I am not sure what NOS stands for. We have been going to Dr. RAo for about 2 years now. He treats my children for yeast. I think he is a considerate kind Doctor who seems to care about children and helping them. He is also agreeable to letting you go at your own pace with any biomedical treatments and seems to have quite a bit of knowledge on the differ biomed. treatments. He listens and is attentive to parents and open to any research or alternatives parents might have discovered through their own research. So he is informed. I will warn you in the biomed world you can get completely bogged down or you can take it one step at a time. My suggestion would be to take it one step at a time so you can determine what might and might not be helping. While we still struggle with yeast he did help us to learn ways to manage it.
He is honest about what he has seen work and not work. However, some of the syptoms my children were having were not all yeast related some were and some were not so we needed to try other programs as well. T.

We are currently taking our 4 year old daughter to Dr. Rao. She has developmental delay and some apraxia issues. He is very knowledgeable and seems to be a little more cautious (in the sense that he has not recommended everything under the sun at once) than I initially expected. We have Cigna insurance and the office visits are covered, but most of the labs/therapies are not. The jury is still out on whether or not his approach will make a ton of difference with our daughter, but I do know that he has helped several children I know. Also, my pediatrician went to a initial visit to Dr. Rao with another family that has a child with autism. He felt that his approach was safe & that he was respectable. Our daughter also sees a neurologist at Scottish Rite & the neurologist wasn't negative about us seeing Dr. Rao at all. He explained that it is just another side of the coin in treatment. Our family has not seen Dr. Rao personally. We do have some friends that saw Dr. Rao for their son's autism. Their son has done remarkably well and they do recommend Dr. Rao to others. Hope that helps!

I think Dr Rao has a son with autism so he knows about it first hand. I believe he had good results treating his son.
