Hi .... I am doing a project like "dress a bear" for our local community for kids in need. The local craft store has 30 bears but they already have a xmas hat and scarf attached to them. I wanted to have our girl scout troop dress them (they are 10in) Where can I get bear clothes at a decent price? Or what type of unisex gift would go good with that. Any other suggestions on what the girl scouts can make for other children in need? Gifts won't be passed out until around Xmas so I have time : ) Just at a loss for ideas. THANKS!

What can I do next?

I went to a girl scout leader-daughter teddy bear tea where the girls were invited to choose a square of no sew fleece and turn it into a poncho for their bears. It was really cute, all the girls had to do was cut a slit in the middle of the square for the bears head to go through, then they snipped around all four sides, creating fringe which they then tied off in easy knots. I bet your girls would enjoy that, it's easy, cheap and requires nothing more than scissors and fabric :)

I agree with Laurie, why not have the girls learn to sew some simple vests, pants, pajamas or dresses for the bears? Holiday fabrics should be going on sale soon, I haven't checked JoAnn's ad yet today so maybe they already are, but it wouldn't take much per outfit, the outfits could all be different and unique, and the girls would also learn a valuable skill (and possibly a badge?)

Kudos to you for your project, all kids should have the opportunity to be involved in doing something for others. I still remember as a "Brownie" Scout making napkin holders, favors and little decorations for a local nursing home to use on their dinner trays at meal time. We made them for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and the 4th of July. The happy faces of the elderly people there are still etched in my memory many, many years later...and I still love to do things for others ; )

simple doll clothes should work.

I also buy onesies at our Dollar Store for my daycare dolls. Maybe that would work!

& I love the thought of the girls learning to sew!

You could make them. Or look for premie baby clothes that would suit your needs. Craigslist?

How about purchasing fabric and teaching the girls to make vests, shirts and pants for the bears?

Just very basic.
