I too have recently started my own home based business with AVON! Since you are here let people know what you're offering and give a website address if you have one. We need a way of knowing who you are, what you offer and how to get ahold of you.For example, My website is wwww.youravon.com/srobinson5531 Go check it out for ideas and look at my profile here too. Develop a network...that is the key. A network is a group of people you know and see on a regular basis. ie: bank teller, grocery clerk, neighbors, church group, kids school receptionist, teacher, etc. If you have literature like a catalog or samples you can put your name on, that really helps too.

I would talk to people with out the thought of a sale on my mind. I always pay people a compliment and you must know deep down in your heart that you really believe in your product and what you have to offer is good and every body should have it. Also consider some personal development classes to help you get over the shyness of talking to people. Remember people that people don't want the product and that it is not you that they do not like.

I'd like to share with you something that I think is absolutely fabulous. No, it's nothinig gimmicky or bogus, I would never waste your time or mine for that matter. It's a service you would ACTUALLY USE as a mom and self employed person.

Dr. Sharraf (one of our referral sources) showed my husband this really convenient on-line card service. He uses it to send thank-yous to his referral sources and his wife uses it for personal card sending. We also use it for our referral sources and I use it to send out birthday cards and holiday cards.

The cards are high quality just like you'd buy at Hallmark or the grocery store. You can choose a pre-made card, or you can make your own card and/or add your own personal message and/or add a pictureS(s). You'd have to see these cards to see what I mean; they are excellent quality and they are very inexpensive. You can add a gift card or gift as well (if the occasion permits).

You can do holiday cards or client cards by the hundreds in just seconds. This company prints the card, puts an actual stamp on it so it's personal and puts it in the mail for you. Way cool!

You can even submit a form with your handwriting on it and they will download it into the computer and you can actually select your own handwriting as the font. This is especially personal when you are sending a card and want to write a message in it other than just signing your name.

I love working on the computer and I often made my own invitations, thank yous and holidays cards because I like doing that graphic design stuff and I liked personalizing things by adding pictures, etc. So this was right up my alley so to speak. Not to mention, I don't like handwriting things out, messing with printing individual envelopes, buying stamps, going to the mailbox, etc.---it's time consuming and not fun. This service does it all for you!

I was always missing people's birthdays, forgetting thank you's, etc....... and now I don't. I send out cards all time now. My husband loves this service because we send thank you's to clients/referral sources consistently and inexpensively.

Anyways, check it out. You can use this service yourself as well as become a rep if you choose. At the very least you'd want to use the service. My husband and I originally wanted to join to just use the service but then I was told I could be a representative for the company; I immediately jumped on the opportunity.

The Mom's Club in Ventana Ranch has a thing where home run businesses can show off their stuff once a month or so.... perhaps joining an organization lke that would help? Also, to get over your shyness - which you'll have to do - volunteer at church or help a non-profit like an adoption center for pets.... you'll break out of your shy shell.

join any and all moms making money group and marketing groups. place your business card where ever you go. dont set yourself up for disappointment by setting your expectations too high in the beginning. go to the chamber of commerece and let them youre new to a business; theyre usually very helpful.

post your flyers or cards everywhere you frequent: grocery, church, cleaners, laundrymat, wherever.
