Need (Healthy) Quick Packable Breakfast Ideas

Standard cereals have been deemed too high in sugar for my 4-yr old son and he doesn't like many packaged foods. Other than cheerios and milk, I could use any ideas you may have for quick, packable breakfast foods that would be not-so-unhealthy or sugary for a 4-yr old. I even tried those toaster things with the eggs/bacon/cheese in them and they were awful!

So What Happened?

Hi, all! Thank you so much for sharing your breakfast ideas. Now that some time has passed, here's what we do mostly for our kiddo's breakfasts now:

Western brand Bagels (from Sprouts - has half the calories of Thomas Bagels and they're smaller) with cream cheese or Havarti cheese and turkey

Mighty Bites w/ Milk (we have to call them Mighty GUYS)

Frozen non-trans-fats waffles, no butter, and a bit of syrup

Yogurt or Go-gurt

Eggs/bacon/toast, etc

And, every once in a while, he wants a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast!

I tried the fruit/yogurt smoothie thing, but I haven't found a combination/recipe that actually tastes good.

I myself and doing an Arbonne Figure 8 Weight Loss (high protein) shake for breakfast (2 Weight Watchers points), a weight loss chew mid-morning ( 1 WW point)and then the Arbonne Figure 8 Orange Fiber shake for lunch (2 WW points)and another weight loss chew mid-afternoon. Then a normal dinner. It's been great and so handy to just drink on the way to drop off the kiddo at school.

Again - thanks for all the advice!

I buy pancake mix (the kind where you put in the oil, egg, etc...that way you can put it what you like) and make several pancakes to use over the next few days. I often put in frozen blueberries to spruce them up. I pack some in my son's lunch cold and he loves them.
Also-NutriGrain bars are good (specs aren't bad) and my son loves those as well.

Good luck

try go-gurts or some other type of breakfast smoothie. They have great fruit tastes and give you what you need in the morning.

Make your own granola, then you have control of how much sugar goes into it and you can add dried fruits for sweetness. There are some great kids cookbooks out there. I like "Super Baby Food"

I have an 11 month old daughter and I try very hard to avoid sugar so I am always looking for something new. I found this cereal at Sprouts called Puffins (by Barbara's Bakery) and not only does she love it, I do to. It has no refined sugar. I have tried the original and the peanut butter and would highly recommend both. I recently bought the Kashi oatmeal because it is sugar free and it is decent, I don't know if your son likes oatmeal. Sprouts is a great place to look around for what you are looking for. I hope this helps!

Have you tried Kashi cereal or unsweetened granola? Or maybe some mixed nuts with raisins - high in fiber and protein. Also, my kids really enjoy soy nuts, which are very healthy.

My favorite cereals for my daughter are:
Mighty Bites by Kashi (health food section)
Life Cinnamon
Cheerios with fruit in the box

I also give her different flavors of Nouriche (yogurt) which I mix with milk to make it easier for her to drink or mix smoothies.

And I mix Target's Pediasure knockoff with milk for another breakfast drink.

I fix fresh fruit and soft breads, such as honey butter biscuits, croissants, bagels or muffins. They love grapes, cut up strawberries and oranges. Usually with milk or juice.
These are all really quick and easy to put together.
