Need Cake Recipe

I'm going to be making my daughters doll cake birthday cake. I 've done a little cake decorating in the past and commercial cake mixes are too moist and crumbly. I have tried a recipe or two from scratch and the cakes came out nice and firm for decorating but I didn't think they tasted very good. Anyone have a cake recipe that tastes good and is firm for decorating? Thx.

What can I do next?

I would recommend going to allrecipes.com for all kinds of cake recipes.

Good luck to you and yours.

I like to use a yellow or white box cake mix and look for one that calls for the most water. I substiture Kern's juice instead of water - it gives the cake a good flavor and keeps it moist. I'm not a cake decorator but it tastes good!

I have several. What flavor are you looking for?

If you want to make a firm cake, you actually can use a cake box mix if you want. You half to add dry box pudding & some extra eggs. Look at the duncan hines website for pound cake recipe. It'll work with any brand too.You can also just make any pound cake recipe from scratch. I have made many doll cakes and betty crocker has a great pan, it's a dome pan for sports balls but I've used it for doll cakes too. You can also use a bowl and layers. If you allow the cake to set in the pan long enough ( after oven remove from pan about 15-20, well greased w/ shortening, then put in back in bowl after it cools, best to do night before) it should be firm enough w/ a box mix. I also buy their favorite doll & wrap it up in plastic wrap, stick it the cake & decorate. good luck
