A.H.
I've been following this story as well and I thought the same thing when I read something similar today. I think even if they didn't air it, it should have been handed over to the authorities immediately.
I am so frustrated with NBC. They interviewed Sandusky, the coach from Penn State on trial for abusing young boys. In the interview he made some comments that in a roundabout way admitted guilt. NBC chose to cut that part of the interview saying they did not have time to include them.
Why would they sit on those comments? It wasn't a time issue.
I will include a link to a story about this. This is just one news source.

Edited again: I am so disgusted by all the secrecy behind this case. So many people protected him. NBC didn't air the comments which I agree was a good call. But they made a questionable decision not to turn over the transcript back in November after the interview. They didn't have to turn them over but why wouldn't they? Hasn't this creep been protected enough???? I just don't get it.
Tracy: Great point!

I believe it has something to do with it being admissable in court. If they air it, it might get thrown out of court and can't be used against him. That's my assumption.
No way a network isn't going to air something that juicy unless there is a reason they are not allowed to. Don't you think it's killing them not to? Ratings are king. I promise NBC is not protecting anyone!
I quit following the Sandusky story last week when the fool judge said the poor victims had to give up their identities to testify. I don't think thats appropriate. Nor do I think it is any of our business about the victims stories. Sandusky and his cronies that knew and hid everything for years deserve complete and utter humiliation, and public stoning, but the victims need to remain anonymous. They dont deserve all this attention for something they are trying to heal from.
I am purposely NOT following this case. However, I can't believe that his lawyer would let him do an interview at this point... it may be that those comments were held back because of the trial. NBC may be talking to the prosecutors about it. If they were to show it and then the jury came back with a innocent verdict or a hung jury, all heck would break loose.
If NBC has those comments, the judge and jury need to hear them.
Well, here are a few thoughts...
There were parts of the interview they DID air and parts they DIDN'T air.
I think NBC is entitled to edit content as they see fit, whether every single person agrees with their edits or not. This was not testimony, not a trial.
It was an "interview" not a deposition or a cross examination under oath.
Apparently prosecutors are interested in obtaining the interview material.
Maybe they can, maybe they can't. I don't know. Maybe they can subpoena a transcript. But they have to do their jobs.
Too many cases are tried in the court of public opinion these days.
Jerry Sandusky's biggest threat to his personal freedom is, quite obviously, his own mouth. And yet, he has shown again and again that he truly believes that if he speaks for himself, he can get America to understand his taste for showering with young boys and sodomy.
I guess once you've lived a lie for so long, you start to believe it, maybe?
Sorry - haven't been following it. It sickens me that it took people years to report the indecent acts this man did to innocent young men.
As with any media platform - they can choose what they air - what appears to be most "dramatic" and will get them the most viewership and therefore more money in their pockets for advertising during that airing.
I don't know why they would "sit" on the comments. I'm not a TV producer.
They save some tidbits for later to keep us watching.
News at 11.
They didn't air it because he has a right to be tried in a courtroom and not in the media. Finally they got it right!
