Is there a particular reason you're wanting to wean now? I don't think nursing to sleep is a "bad" habit, I think it's a sweet time for mom & baby. My 11 month old still nurses to sleep, and like your baby will let others rock him to sleep but not me! I don't really have any advice, I just wanted to say don't be too hard on yourself or feel that you've done something wrong by allowing him to nurse for naps. I promise he won't do it forever!

Well, I don't have much advice other than to say that my son also needs to nurse with me to go to sleep, and doesn't with my husband. I haven't tried to wean yet because I consider it our special time and it works well for us. But I've noticed that he's slowed down a bit and doesn't need it all the time with me. Your son might stop on his own shortly, or you might try doing a bottle?

Hi, J.--why is it a big mistake to nurse before naps? It's when they are most in need of comforting. I did it at bedtime until my daughter was three! It was just our alone time and it was wonderful (no longer for nourishment, just for closeness and comfort). She never took a pacifier or thumb, just me...the way I weaned her was to start singing lullabies while we nursed, and the transition to just singing and rocking without nursing was pretty quick and easy from there. He also can smell the difference between you and the others, so maybe if your husband does it with a lullaby for a week it will make it easier for you to do the same. Good luck!
