Our nanny is pregnant, and once the baby is born she wants to bring her kid along to watch mine.. Should I decrease her pay if she is watching her own child as well?

I agree with a previous poster, I think she's just trying to be polite because she's scared of losing her position in this economy. It's very nice of her to offer but being that I've been in several positions to find either daycare, a nanny or sitter, bringing their child(ren) along is commonplace and they usually expect the same pay regardless. So I'm also going to say, unless you feel she won't provide the same care, then don't change it. You're lucky you have a nanny who's so kind about something like this but if she's good to you, be good to her and let her keep her pay. Especially because of the fact that she's taking on a huge financial responsibility with having a baby, she'll need it more than ever. Plus as her baby gets older, it's a playmate for your child. So everyone wins actually.

not even sure what to say to this. I would absolutely not decrease her pay. If your not sure she will still give the same level of care then you might want to get a different nanny but to think about cutting her pay when she will have a whole new level of financial responsibility is not a good idea. the only way to think about cutting her pay is if she is going to be caring for your child less often.

Hi J.,

I agree with Gina. I wouldn't decrease her pay. I'm not sure how old your kid(s) are, but my nanny brings her kid with her to our house, and the two boys adore each other and have a lot of fun together. Everybody wins.

I would not decrease her pay, she will be actually working more or harder. If it bothers you, then you should find someone that does not have children, but it would not be right to decrease her pay.

If she is a great nanny and you are satisfied with her services, despite the fact that she offered to take a pay cut I'd leave things the way they are.

If you are comfortable with her bringing her baby with her, keep her pay as is. In this economy, she is probably worried about possibly not having a job and offered it as an option to you in case you would be concerned about the additional call for her attn.
