$7 is an insult. Find a family that values you for at least $12 - $20 an hour for one child. Good luck.
I am currently a nanny for three year old twin girls. They will be going to school in the fall, so i will need a full time nanny job. There is a family I babysit for that would like to use me for seven dollars an hour and claim me on their taxes, so I would really be getting around $230 a week, which is not enough in my opinion. I have been babysitting for ten years, have worked in 3 daycares, and have a lot of experience with kids. My question is, how much would you be willing to pay a nanny?? Thanks!

Umm... you'd make more $ at McDonalds, and it would be way easier. Don't settle for such little money, especially with your experience.
I was a nanny for 10 years for 3 different families. I made $15/hour and got paid vacation and was paid when the families were away. I even got health insurance through one job which, while not typical, was great. We live in Boulder, CO so I know not all place pay that much. I would say for your experience you should be making at least $12/hour. Most people cannot pay bills realistically or even remotely think about saving any $ making that little--which is UNDER the current minimum wage of Kentucky ($7.25/hour--I just googled it). Don't be taken advantage of. A lot of people think that childcare is unskilled labor and should be paid as such. I disagree. Find a family that will pay you what you deserve!
I was a nanny for 2 years to twins in Cincinnati. I was paid $375 a week and they paid about $90 a month for medical insurance for me. With your experience, I would say $230 is not enough! I would take advantage of the summer to send out your info to other families and see if you can get a better offer!
It depends on if they are providing room and board or not (I know that some don't and that some nannies choose to have their own living space and go to work every day like any other job). If you are getting room and board then 8-10 dollars an hour could be considered adequate. I guess it really just depends on what both parties are comfortable with.
I worked in Lexington the last few years and was making $12 an hour. It's all about finding the right family that is willing to pay more for someone with experience. I was even making that amount when I went back to work with my newborn son. You can find jobs that pay better here they are just harder to find than in other parts of the country. There are websites that people post on where you can find jobs that they are willing to pay more. Let me know if you need help finding those or have any questions I am happy to help. I was a nanny for 17 years but am now a SAHM.
The going rate is $12-$15 an hour. $7 is not near enough. I would tell them that point blank. As for the taxes thing if they are going to claim you they should also be taking the money and putting it into the social security etc. are they planning on doing that?
I provide home daycare and get about that for a full time child. With you being a nanny( only working with their family, coming to their home and having everything center around their children) you should definitely get more than $7 per hour!! I would say between $10 and $12 per hour.
Rates vary greatly from one area to another. Rates also vary on how many children and the amount of work that your expected to do. Are you just watching the kids? Do you need to prepare meals? Are they feeding you any meals? Do you need to do any house cleaning or meal prep? The more you do, the more you should get paid.
Also, are you getting paid hourly or weekly salary? Do the hours vary per week? Do you get paid for holidays?
Either way, I don't think $7 per hour is enough.
I have been a nanny in the past and I got paid between $15 and $20 an hour. That could be because of where I live and my level of experience and how many kids are being cared for. Care.com is a website to find nanny jobs in your area. You can compare how much the average is that way.
If we were to get a nanny here, I would pay a minimum of $12 an hour for one child.
I think it really depends on the area of the country you live in. In Minneapolis the going rate is $11-$15 per hour for two kids.
$7 doesn't sound like enough to me. That works out to be about $14,000 a year gross for a full time job. Can you even live on that?
