I dont know about dislocated shoulders, but I do know that they get hurt alot! My daughter broker her leg at 9 months (got her leg stuck in a crib toy!) But they just casted it - only for 3 weeks for a break. Im sure its just a matter of setting it back. I cant imagine surgery for this little one. But if it comes to that, she'll be so tough it will surprise you.

Sounds like others with direct experience have already responded specifically about the shoulder but just to add to the discussion. My brother-in-law, now in his late 30's, had a hip dislocation as an infant (around 12 or 13 months). Anyways, he had to have a cast for awhile but that was all and is quite fine as an physically active adult.

When my daughter was 1yr. old she dislocated her elbow. The Pediatrician called it nurse maids elbow. First, they took x-rays to make sure there wasn't a fracture. Then the Pediatrician pulled my daughters elbow back into place herself. It sounds painful but the procedure is so quick my baby cried a couple of minutes. My daughter was playing & using her arm within a hour. She has had no problems since & she is 2 yrs. old now. Baby bones heal very fast cause they are constantly groing.

they can usually just pop it back into place. Sometimes that process can be quite painful, and sometimes the child's muscles can prevent it from going back, so they *MIGHT* give her some sort of muscle relaxant or sedative to do the job. Then again, they might just do it quickly and be done with it. Don't worry - kids are made of rubber and she will heal quickly.

i would seriously hope you would consider a chiropractor before surgery. And keep in mind they do not "crack" backs" If you are anywhere north of the city I have several referrals I could give you

Hi Aubri,
This hasn't happened to either of my kids but my best friend's children had this "nurse maid's elbow" several times and the doctor just pops it back in right at the office. I know it can be painful but it is not highly unusual and doesn't require surgery. Some kids are more prone to it so once it's fixed be very careful when she starts to walk and try not to pull her up by just holding onto her arms. Good luck!
