Hi ladies! I am so excited! I have lived in Texas for a year and a half now. I moved here from Delaware for my husbands job. Anyway, my Dad just called today and said that he and my Stepmother are going to fly here on New years day and stay for 4 days for a visit. Where can I take them so they can see what Texas is like? Does anyone have any suggestions for nice restaurants, shows, events, etc....
Also, my Dad's birthday is January 2nd so I would to take him somewhere nice. Please advice. I have not been here long enough to know the cool spots in Texas.

What can I do next?

If you want them to get the "Dallas" tour, I would take them downtown. You could take them to the JFK site, the book depository. Reunion Tower (the ball) is always a neat to go to. I've lived here my whole life and I still love going to the ball. Or you could go out to Ft. Worth to get the "Texas" feel, to the Stockyards.

Your Dad may want to take the obligatory visit to the Book Depository in Dallas and while you are there you may want to visit the West End.There is also a trip to the Stockyards in Fort Worth for more of a cowboy experience. Those trips could fill up 2 days at least. Also, believe it or not, I have friends who come visit and the first thing they want to do is visit the Southfork Ranch. Big Dallas fans in the 80's,lol. Is your stepmother a shopper? If so, she may enjoy some of the fun local shopping. My family and friends who visit always love going to Sam Moon.
These are all pretty obvious/cliche. But they are pretty much the standard for us and our guests really seem to enjoy them.
Enjoy your visit!

Not sure how long it is in town, but you could go see ICE at the Gaylord Texan. The hotel is beautiful for the holidays even if ICE is no longer there.

Hi L.,

After reading your post, I knew I had to respond...my birthday is also January 2nd!!!

We love taking family from the northeast to La Hacienda Ranch for great food and the "Texas" experience. It's located off 121 between Hall Johnson and Glade on the border of Grapevine/Colleyville. (www.lahaciendaranch.com)

Afterwards, you could swing by the Gaylord to walk around/take pictures, and then finish up at Southlake Town Square to grab some dessert or do some shopping. Campania Pizza will resume live music on Fri/Sat nights in January, and it's a great place to have a homemade bellini or coffee and hang out on the rooftop patio. Have fun!
