My Breasts Won't Stop Leaking

Hi Moms,
I am hoping some of you will have had some experience with this. I went to the ob today because I haven't bf in 1.5 years and a few weeks ago they started leaking and I mean really leaking. They fill up and let down a few times through out the day. I have to have blood work done to check my thyroid and to check prolactin (sp?) levels and an MRI to check and make sure my pituitary gland is ok. The MRI makes me nervous I don't like confined areas like showers w/ doors and elevators I take the stairs when ever possible. I'm just looking for other moms that have dealt w/ this.
Thanks,
R.

So What Happened?

I had my MRI on Monday it did okay with it it was open on both ends and the piece that went over my head had a mirror on it so I could see out the windows that were behind the machine. I don't have any of my results back yet. The only problem I had was when they injected the dye my vein moved and it went under my skin that is not a good time but had much better luck injecting it in my other arm. Thank you all for your advice. Bringing music to listen to helped a lot. :)

I'm having an MRI next week for something else. They suggest bringing a CD they can pop in to help you relax. See if your MRI department let's you do that. It might help on claustrophobia part of it all.

I hope you find some answers. You're not pregnant, are you?

I don't mean to worry you, but I'd also get a mammogram. Whenever something 'non-standard' happens with breast, I think it's a good policy.
Good luck!!

Hi,

My husband had to have an neck MRI and couldn't do it the first time because of claustrophobia. The next time he was given Ativan (an anti-anxiety medication) and had me be in the room (I held his foot for reassurance!) and he was able to do it. You can always ask if this is an option.

Good luck!

I haven't been in your situation but I know there is such a thing as "open" MRI which is not as contained and might be easier for you. You could also ask about the sequencing of the tests - ie if you can wait on the MRI and get the results of the thyroid and prolactin levels etc first to see if an MRI is necessary.

best of luck.

I have not experienced your particular problem, but I have had an MRI and I too am not fond of enclosed places. Ask for an open MRI, if that's possible. If not, let them know about your anxiety and maybe they can give you something to help you relax. Good luck and hope it all works out!

To rule out other irregularities first~ there is a med to stop lactating... So hopefully it will play out smoothly..
