Well I have and 11 month old boy. The odd thing is , that he has the appitie of a grown man , he can eat ALOT i usualy feed him his cereal and 2 cans of food with a formula bottle of 7oz per sitting.

he is a little below average on the precentile chart.

can anyone help me FIND A WAY TO MAKE HIM CHUBBIER . ?????
is there something wrong with him .
im going to take him to his pedi. but i want to see if there are ant ideas or same situations out there >?

What can I do next?

K.,
It's normal for a 11 month old to be a little skinnier than a younger baby...He is probably more mobile and walking which is why a 11 month old loses the baby fat. You don't need to worry...my kids were slendr babies too and they are now normal, healthy boys!!

If he's eating well and holding it down and seems fine in every regard, he's just a small kid. I realize everyone is obese obsessed in America and think skinny people are scrawny. Dont worry about it. Were you a fat baby, was your husband? My sons were not chubby babies either and they ate like horses too.

The focus should be on if he's a) healthy, and b) gaining weight in a healthy fashion----not how much he weighs or how he compares to other babies. Some kids are just small/thin, and that is all there is to it.

Knowing how much he weighed at birth, and how much he has gained since then at his various wellness check-ups is key. That's why your pediatrician weighs him and measures his height & head size.

The easiest thing to do, rather than worry, is call and talk to the nurse. They can pull his charts and tell you what his weights were at various check-ups, and how he is measuring.... What they typically want to see is that he's either staying at his percentile or is gradually gaining. They don't want to see him drop in his percentile, nor make a huge jump up either.

For example, my son was small (6#10oz) at birth, and was at the 10%. Over the course of the next 6 months, he gradually moved up to the 25% percentile, and that is where he has pretty much stayed, for weight. He started at 50% for height, but shot up to 75% by 6 months, and has stayed there. He's 27m now, and still wearing 18m pants because he's skinny.

So, rather than worry, can your doctor's office and speak to the nurse or doctor. They may want you to bring him in, just to be on the safe side (it's always better to catch any issues early, especially in babies).

My daughter Alexis is skinny...I mean skinny! She eats like a pig (is 2 years old) but can't be chubby...I don't think she has the fat cells...LOL!

Look, don't worry about chubby, worry about healthy. Ask your Pediatrician and they will tell you what to do!

Don't listen to the uninformed judgments of others!

Why do you want to make him fat? There is no reason. Not everyone is the same and as long as he is staying on the same growth curve he's fine. My youngest has always been very thin he is going to be 4 very soon and only weighs 31 lbs but he is 42 in. He's built like I am. Formula or breast milk has nothing to do with it.

I would not worrie about you sons weight unless your Dr. is concerned. My daughter who is 2 now was and still is in the 5% for weight. As long as they are gaining weight the Dr. is usually happy. If you are feeding him when he is hungry then all is good! My friends daughter is about 11months and her daughter is the same size as my 2 year old - she is in the 90% of weight. All kids are different, just feed him when he is hungry and let the Dr. advise if he thinks there is an issue! Your all good!

My boy was under the 25th percentile for height and weight until he turned 5 (we were so excited when he got to the 25th!). He ate tons and consistently gained weight...just on his own growth curve. He's average now at 7 yrs old. Babies definitely don't need to be chubby to be healthy. My daughter is 19 months old and I don't think she has an extra roll of chub on her body. Her cousin is 3 weeks younger, was born 3 months premature and currently outweighs her by 3+ pounds! I guess my husband and I just make skinny kids! I hope that metabolism stays with them as they get older :)

As long as the doctor isn't worried, your kiddo is eating well (which is sounds like he is!), and he's gaining weight along HIS growth curve, you have nothing to worry about.

I know how stressful being a first-time mom can be, but don't let the comparisons to other moms or babies get to you. Sounds like your boy is healthy and that means you're doing a great job!!

As long as he's on the chart, don't worry about it. My son is 6 years old and is only 38 pounds and his sister is 4 and is 35 pounds. He sees the doctor as often as needed and in the beginning, I was nervous like you. Fed him PediaSure everyday in hopes of fattening him up. Nothing worked. His doctor stopped telling me what his % was since he says it does me no good but stresses me out. He said both my kids are under weight compared to the average kid, but that they are healthy and as long as they are eating good, that's all that matters.

Good luck and think about this... you can carry him longer becuase he's so much lighter than other kids (at least that's one benefit I saw with having light kids).

Why on earth would you want to give you child a weight problem. If his weight was a major problem the doctor would have told you that he has a weight problem. From your own words he eats good, he just not retain fat like some other babies. My son was the same way, and at about 12 he started to gain weight and got chubbie, then in HS he got on the soccer team the lost that fat and became a lean mean soccer machine. Now at 25 the weight is starting to pack on again. My 2nd son was FAT, 8lbs at birth and by 4 months he was 20lbs. Once he started to walk the pounds just fell off and I am so glad. I have a students right now that is 184lbs and only about 5ft 1 in. If he doesn't start to loose this weight he will have some major health issues. Don't worry unless your son presents a health issue and the doctor is worried.

It's so hard to not compare our children to others. Has your pediatrician ever talked with you about your child being underweight? If not, don't worry about it. Studies show that babies with normal weights during their first year are more likely to have a healthy weight as an adult, whereas overweight babies are at a greater risk for obesity. Your baby is fine the way he is.

if your kid is healthy and looks healthy DONT WORRY! we have an obesity problem in this country and you are trying to make your kid fat! soe kids are leaner than others. Now if hes sick a lot, pale and not having healthy bowel movements then id suspect he was having digestive issues and malnourished, but you would have mentioned that stuff in your question since htose would be far more pressing issues than a lean body. dont mess with your kid to make him fat, just feed your kid healthy foods and hell grow perfectly!

When you take him in for him wellcheck, are his percentiles for his weight, height and head circumfrence generally in the same range? If so, then he is developing perfectly for his body. At least, that's what my doctor told me about my own children. From my experience, chubby babies don't stay very chubby very long. Your son is at the age when he is probably going to start getting very, very active (a baby who is walking is a baby in motion) so that will cause him to thin out. Since he is already thin, you will most likely seeing his once chubby friends starting to thin out. That's been my experience at least. So don't worry about fattening him up at this point. Adding baby fat to a toddler would just be plain unhealthy at this point.

if his percentage is right below 50% then you are FINE with that weight.
Remember obesity starts young, Your child is healthy if they are between 25 and 75 percentiles

My kids on the other hand dropped from 75th% at 6 mos down to 25th%tile by a year and by 15 months below 3rd percent.

We had them tested for many things and it turns out they are just small by nature.
