Mother Having Surgery

My mom is going into surgery on friday to remove a large mass the size of a cantaloupe that's connected to her fallopian tube. They decided to they will have to do a full hysterectomy to be on the safe side. They haven't been able to determine whether or not the mass is cancerous. They will remove the mass and while still under will do a biopsy to determine if it's cancerous and at that time will decide what needs to be done. I don't under stand why a mass could grow inside her and grow so fast if it wasn't cancerous. Anyone heard of this happening? What did it end up being? I'm worried about her.

What can I do next?

THis happened to my mom about 15 years ago and was also a benign tumor (not cancerous) - she had a partial hysterectomy with that so the recovery was a little longer than we had originally anticipated.
There are so many possible reasons for this happening and the best part is that they are going to biopsy right then and there. If they have to remove anything extra, they will already be in her rather than scheduling another procedure. These growths can happen at any time for no reason. Her and I both have very cystic breasts as well, so, we get checked regularly to make sure there is nothing else going on. I can't tell you not to worry about your mom because it's going to happen anyway. Just take deep breaths and think wonderful thoughts of her and all the cool things you'll do when she's recovered from this.
I'll say a prayer for her tonight too.

I had the same thing. My tumor was the size of a grapefruit. It turned out to be a fibroid. I'm sure your mom will be fine.

My mom had the same thing about 4 years ago...Her's was almost the size of a football, but wasn't cancerous. So, it is possible for it not to be! I believe they said it was a fibroid(?). I don't know anything about other than that she was fine.

I will keep your mother in my prayers!

Yup, my mom went thru it at the age of 47. Size of grapefruit and she had a complete hysterectomy. The good news it was non cancerous!

Tumors and cysts are weird things. ONe of my tenants had a gall stone removed recently and brought it to me (they let him take it home) it was the size of a peach and looked like it was made out of wood. All I could say was "Eww".
Your mom will be fine and will probably feel great getting that thing out of there :)
Prayers..

It's probably a fibroid. Has she had other imaging in the past in which it didn't exist? Most women don't have imaging, just a pap smear. So it's possible it has been there a while and was never noticed. I hope it's benign!
