Modesty Question - How to Hide "Headlights"???

OK, so I know the obvious answers are things like buy ones with padded bras or wear a tshirt over them.

But what I really want to know is, has anyone found a way to discretly ADD some modesty padding to a bathing suit?

I have a few suits that don't have "bras" in them. I am so tired of the "headlights" look when I get out of the pool!

I know some lifeguards and instructors who wear sports bras underneath, and I've done that too. But I'm hoping one of you Mamas can direct me to a product I can sew into my suit?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the advice, I KNEW some of you would know how to handle this. I did buy some reusable silicone petals from Target! I haven't used them yet. But the nursing pads were not an option since I needed something for a swimsuit - don't think the nursing pads can go in the water.

When I was in HS, I had a bathing suit that was half black and half white. The white side would get see through when wet. you don't realize this when you buy it. My sister bought some material at Hanover Fabrics and sewed it into the suit. It worked really well and was not bulky. You should be able to go to a fabric store and ask for a material that will not go transparent when wet.

Why not just buy some foam bra cups and sew them in?
I'm sure you could find them at JoAnn fabrics, or the like.

I always buy bras & swimsuits with padded tops because I'm rather large and need the extra support and discretion (after 1 year of Breastfeeding, my nips are almost always "up"). So besides the obvious, as you said... My suggestion would be to sew in a pad (such as a cloth nursing pad) into the tops. I've had my mom do this with a swimsuit top that was already padded, but had weird hems all inside the cups that were itchy and uncomfortable. It may not be the most attractive thing, but it should give you a little more discretion.

If you are that concerned over it - band-aids or tape. but keep in mind they may fall off in the water.

If you are a public pool - just keep your towel or wrap nearby....

Good luck!

I second the answer about the petal covers. Cant remember the exact name, but it is petal something. I use to wear them all the time when I was younger and they totally work. Try victoria's secret for them or search the Internet.

Get your swim suits custom made and put as much padding as you want.

I've never thought it was a big deal and people really aren't "looking" like you might think they are. It is more noticeable when someone is trying to hide it because you can see the band aids, tape, or circular pad.

I also understand that I am not the most modest person and I'll be the first one stripping down where I need to for changing clothes, etc in the gym or at a department store.

I am just different regarding modesty, etc but there is nothing wrong with how you feel either..

LilyPadz work great. And they last for years if you take care of them. You can't sew them into anything, but you can wear them under bathing suits, tight t-shirts, pretty much anything. I *hate* wearing a bra, and sometimes, I just stick on the LilyPadz and I'm good to go, no headlights, no slippage. http://www.simplylily.com. They're actually nursing pads, but they're awesome for taming headlights.

bandaids. In theatre that is what we usually would do. Or if someone had money they would buy lily pads. . .I think that is what it's called.

Didn't read your responses, so someone may have already suggested this, but Joann Fabrics has a section for creating your own bras, inserts for dresses, things like that, and they have a few options for padding or coverings that you can sew into a bathing suit...

One other thing that comes to mind are the adhesive *petals* that conceal nip-ons. LOL Not sure if they'd stay put in water, though... I'd guess the packaging would tell you...

Good luck!

*Caution* I would avoid the band aid solution. I had a "bad" experience with that. For bras, mine are all now lined and for bathing suits---most of mine have bras in them.
