My six month old son is having a hard time falling asleep on his own. Do any of you use mobiles/lights on the ceiling or anything like that to help your little ones get drowsy and drift off to sleep without fighting it? Particular brands that your babies love? Thank you!
hey A.! The crib aquarium by fisher price. it is a MIRACLE. my daughter was transfixed by the slowly glimmering, shimmering fish and it plays a nice melody. worked like a champ and helped soothe her. :)

Hi I have 3 year old twins & they have always been comforted by the crib aquariums by fisher price (the one with the seahorse octopus & fish that go around}also leap frog has a dreamscape soother for the crib( find them on ebay) to which they love.They also enjoy the neptune aquarium by baby einstein anything with bubbles lights & soft music.
At three they still have to put them all on to go to sleep.
Also get a cd player that continoosly plays & put on Lullabies.That works tooo !!

We purchased the Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Mobile for our little one. It had several features that I loved: first it has a remote control, so it can be turned on again without totally entering the room. Secondly, it can be used free-standing on top of a dresser after they are too big to have a mobile in the crib. My grandson is 19 months old now, and part of our bedtime routine is for him to "help" turn on the mobile so it plays the music and makes the lights go on the ceiling of his room.
My daughter had a Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium that she loved. It attaches to the inside of the crib so they can hit the buttons and make it play again. She loved to watch the fish swim around and it played soothing music.
We had a baby monitor unit that played music and cast bright moving images on the ceiling or wall(you could aim it)- My son loved it and it worked. I think it was fisher price, but I'm not sure(I remember the unit being white w/ lite blue)-my son's five now, I swear he is still living off my brain cells!lol! Anyway, I images were stars and a moon, they moved and the images were BIG-it was very cool because it would shut off after a certain amount of time.

My son loved the V-tech light show and music box. I could only find it on Ebay from England at the time, but have since seen them at Wal-Mart. Its in a yellow box with a bear sleeping on a half moon. It eats up C batteries so I ended up buying the rechargable kind. He loved it from a baby until 3 years old. We had to take it with us everywhere!
It's not the fisher-price ocean thing that has garnered so many replies, but still has an ocean theme: The Little Einstein aquatic turtle (not sure if that's the actual name). There were some nights my husband and I swore that was the one and only thing that got her to go to sleep. Plays about five classical tunes with fish that swim around and lights that blink to the rhythm.
He will let you know when he is ready for independence. He is not produce and will not spoil with over handling. Hold and rock him to sleep or sing to him. A mobile can be an interesting amusement for a baby but I think you run the risk of over stimulating him at bedtime which can be counter-productive. A nice bath and some quality time with mom and dad is the beginning of a peaceful bedtime ritual. As he gets older you can read to him. I would not worry about having the "perfect" sleeping infant I think much is sacrificed in building trust in order to achieve sleep for adults. He will sleep fine and be independent but for me my goal is to build a lasting trust relationship with my children and teach by example compassion and helping others even at bedtime when I am tired too.
I suggest you go to ebay and look for a crib toy called a "busy box." This is something that hangs on the side of the crib and has various play items on it (spinning wheel, mirror, etc.) that helps little ones remain content until they fall asleep or upon awakening until they are picked up.
I ahve all kinds of things in my crib but it doesn't always work. I just had to learn, wiht both ofmy girls, to put them to bed and let them cry for the most part. It really does work. However, I didn't put them in their crib to slepp until they were older. They stayed in a bassinet in my room unitl then
I have several friends that use different things. I always used a CD "Daddies Sing Goodnight" for both my boys. I still use it every night for my youngest (2) and on occasion when my oldest (5) asks for it. I have a couple friends that use different CD's (lullabyes, classical, white noise), some use over the head mobiles, others use attach to the side ones. Play around and see what helps him and then stick with that. Good luck to you!

I think that's what they're called. But they do have them at Wal-Mart. They are teddy bears that attach to crib, so you don't have to worry about suffocation.
They give off a the sound of a continuous heartbeat. This is supposed to remind babies of being in the uterus when they were accompanied by the constant sound of the beating of Mommy's heart.
