Hi Kristen,
I just had the Mirena inserted a couple of weeks ago during a hysteroscopy surgery~ I had (a) uterine polyp(s). I also had a D&C. My bleeding started off as the light pink tint like you described and it has gotten heavier, darker brown to red, and I also have had the stringy stuff you have mentioned, too, in addition to light clotting. I have noticed that I am more tired, I've been itching all over, my skin has not been doing that great, and I had several days where I was nauseous all day no matter what I did... it gave me bad memories of the HORRIBLE morning sickness I experienced with both of my children. I did experience gas for the first week as well. My lower abdomen still feels very tender and sore to touch, and if I do too much walking, or am on my feet too much, I start to hurt and start bleeding heavier. I am not sure if this is due to the surgery or not, however, either way, this shouldn't be happening.
Prior to my having the IUD inserted, I went to WebMD to check the Mirena out. I read all the reviews the women had posted and made a very clear decision that I WAS NOT going to have this thing inserted as all the side effects and horror stories they told of scared the hell out of me! I spoke to my doctor about this. She's been putting these things in for years and years (& has one herself) and hasn't had anyone come back to her with the problems I brought up to her. Perhaps the trouble lies in the person who inserts the devices? I don't know... all I know is that after I decided against this, I changed BCP again. For well over a year, NOT ONE type had worked for me. This seemed like the next best option and since I was having surgery, and I DID NOT want to be awake during the insertion, I opted to give it a go. I hope it doesn't turn out to be something I regret. As far as the symptoms you're feeling, I think perhaps you might be fatigued due to the length of time you've been bleeding and just that hormonal shift in general. Have you had a blood test at all? If you continue to feel this way and you don't end up getting sick (something is going around), I would have your doctor call an order into the lab for you and have everything checked. Maybe you have a certain vitamin defiency due to the blood loss, for example. There are always other factors to consider in being tired, of course. But if your life has not changed significantly, then you need to go back to your doctor or find a better one who will listen to you and regard your concerns.
I wish you all the best. I hope you start to feel great and really end up loving this thing!!! :)
In Light,
Jennifer
