I have had mine for 3 years. Some discomfort going in. Benefits are no menstraul cramps or bleeding after about 4 months. I have had not problems with it.
Hi Ladies,
I just gave birth to my 3rd son 5 weeks ago, and I'm trying to figure out what kind of birth control I want to use. I would like to know if any of you use the Mirena IUC, and if you like it or not. Did you have any side effects from it? Did it hurt going in? Will it hurt coming out? Any insight you can give me would be great!!!
Thanks!

I've had mirena for 7 months and love it! A little cramping when it was put it but nothing a mom can't handle!
I have had the Mirena for about 3 or 4 mos now and I love it. I am not going to lie that I did have some discomfort when they put it in. But I amn very small down there and so they had to do some adjustments to get it in but Advil helped and I havent had any problems really. I did spot at first for a little bit but my doctor told me that was normal. Now my periods come when they are suppose to and dont stay to long! I recommend it! The string thing is true that that she mentioned but just have him trim it just a little. !!! Good luck! Merry Christmas!
I had my first one for 5 years.I had very painful cramps for 2 weeks and almost had it taken out. But they finally went away and I loved it! no worries, light periods if any at all! Im on my second one and have had severe cramps like labor pains for almost a year now. I went to the DR and everything is fine with it. I take 800 mg of Advil when I have the cramping. I keep dealing with it because I dont want any other type of BC. So even though I hate mine right now, I would recommend it. Everyones body handles it differently so it could work for you and you wont have to worry about anything for 5 years! If you dont like it then you can get it taken out. The pain to put it in or take it out wasnt too bad to me. If you decide to try it, I would take some Advil before you go.
I had the Mirena put in almost 2 years ago and I love it. My husband and I were unsure if we wanted another child so we did not want anything permanent that is why we opted for the Mirena. I love the fact that I don't have to worry about birth control since I have two little ones that keep me going. When my doctor initially inserted it there was a bit of cramping but only lasted a few seconds. I have had very light periods and also shorter periods. You can not tell you have the Mirena in. Yes, my husband too can sometimes feel the string but it is not unconfortable for him. I love having the Mirena and think it is the most amazing birth control for women with a single long term partner. I will be getting my removed soon because my husband wants to try for a little boy. I will keep in touch. I hoped I helped you with you decision. Good luck and have a Merry Christmas.
I had Mirena put in about 5 years ago, and had it removed after 9 months of complications. I would not repeat it.

I had Mirena after the birth of my son. When they put it in it is no more uncomfortable than a reguler check-up. I had a little cramping that day. I had a friend who had it also she had cramping for about a week and she had spotting for a couple of weeks. I had no spotting. After that first day I felt fine I never knew it was there (and this may be gross/weird) till my husband and I had sex again. The mirena has wires on the end of it and if they don't cut them short enough then your husband will feel them (sorry I know its gross). Getting the Mirena taken out was about the same as getting it in just like a regular appointment. I loved having it in, there was nothing to worry about and I had no problems with it. HTH Merry Christmas and Congratulations on your new baby!
Hey, I have it and love it. I love the fact I don't have to worry about it. I got it put in when my son was 6 weeks old, he is now almost 10 months old. It did not hurt that much going in. To be honest, it sorta felt like I was constipated for a minute. I had just a little bit of cramping when she put it in. I didn't have any problems that day either. My husband does feel it (the strings) sometimes when we are having sex, but he said it is not that big of a deal. He said he can work around it with no problems. I don't know about it coming out. My doc said it feels pretty much the same coming out as it did going in. Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions.
I LOVED it! I had it 6 weeks after my son was born, and just had it removed a month ago b/c we're ready for #2! It was wonderful not to remember to take a pill the same time every day, or have to go get a shot every three months. I was also one of the lucky ones who had no period at all. It didn't hurt to have it put in, though it was slightly uncomfortable (like mild cramps). I lightly spotted off and on for about 5 weeks, then no period at all. It was very nice to not have to even think about birth control! I couldn't even feel it when I had it removed; it was quick, easy, and painless. I did have a hard time losing the baby weight, though. I don't know if it was related, but I've heard that other women have gained a little weight.
