I had the IUD put in a few months ago, thinking about 5 or 6 months ago. Well after about 2 months I started spotting every day. It is like the reverse of a period. Spot all month, then for about a week it's dry. Anyone else experiance this? Anyone know if anything can be done about it?

What can I do next?

It took about 8 months for me to completely stop spotting. It was inconsistent, but eventually stopped altogether :)

I think you need to call your OBGYN...or GP. I have not had a period if 4 years! Once in a while I get a spot or two but that's it.

It has caused other side effects though...i.e. acne and I gained 50 lbs very quickly!

Hi, I have had the mirena for almost 5 years now. I spotted for about 2.5 months and then it completely stopped and I haven't had a period since. When I go for my annual exam I will spot for about a week. I have had three ovarian cysts and am now working on my fourth. They are horrible but bearable. I hope it doesn't cause you too much pain and worry. Good Luck.

I have heard of this happening --one of the unfortunate side effects of mirena. The women I knew who had this happen, just took it out. It wasn't worth it to them. Go and talk to your obgyn about options. Sorry this happens to you!

I spotted for almost a year before I regulated. I have a few friends that don't get their periods at all and I finally asked one of them about it. Apparently in their experience it was tied to their weight. Once they went over a certain weight their period stopped. I was never fortunate enough to be that thin so I did not experience this good side effect.

Yes, you need to talk to your OB/GYN. Did she ever do the check up to make sure that the IUD placement was still secure after a month or two? You're supposed to go for a follow up check-up when you have the Mirena. If you didn't go this is one of the reasons you're supposed to go: so that you can ask questions like this and your doctor can reassure you or refit the IUD or discuss other options.
