Hello!
I will be visiting Memphis soon with my family for a last-minute pre-delivery getaway. I'm 7 1/2 months pregnant, though, and high-risk for a couple of reasons. My doctor has approved the travel since Memphis has a number of hospitals with a NICU. I'd like to have an idea of where I would go there if I did go into labor early or had any problems. Do you have any recommendations? "The MED" seems to be the hospital that deals with the most serious cases, but is it busy and alienating? We're staying right by St. Francis--thoughts on them? Other recommendations? BTW, I'm hoping for a natural birth/VBAC. I don't anticipate any huge problems w/baby, but neo-natal lupus is a possibility (not as bad as it sounds from what I understand), and the baby will be early if born there of course.
Thanks, thanks, thanks! for your insight.
BTW--hubby would probably welcome recommendations for the best local BBQ joint, too!
Hi all,
Well, we're back, and I'm still pregnant. :D It was great knowing that I had good options if anything went wrong though, so thanks again! We LOVED Memphis and wished we'd had time to stay longer and see more. My hubby enjoyed the BBQ too, so thanks for those recommendations!

St. Francis is thwe best! In my opinion I feel that St. Francis and the best friendly, comfortable and efficient care for pregnant women. The MED is horrible I would not reccommend that to anyone. Living in memphis and birthing two babies one in the MED and one in St Francis I can definately tell you if you want to have a smooth drama free experieince you are near the right one!! So good choice to be close by and as for your HUBBY ;-) He definitely has to try Neely's BBQ while you guys are here! and it is also close by the hospital. Topps BBQ is also a good one. I hope you guys enjoy your atay here without any problems and I wish you the best visiting MEMPHIS!
My 3 kids were all born here...1st and 3rd at Baptist Women's Hospital and the 2nd at Methodist Germantown. I really preferred Methodist, but because of insurance I was back at Baptist for my 3rd. Not that I had a bad experience either time at Baptist, but after experiencing both, I would pick Methodist if I had the option. My second son was born at 35 weeks and spent 9 days in the Methodist NICU. The nurses and doctors there made the experience so much easier. I think my ped prefers it too because a few years ago I had the option of all hospitals and that is the one he sent us to.
As for Barbeque...I would definitely try the Germantown Commissary. It has great barbeque and ribs and my husband just had their chicken and said it was the best he's ever had. Here is the link. http://www.commissarybbq.com/
