I was dying my sisters hair at my house the other day. Do it all the time. For some reason I was all over the place a dropped a quarter size drop on my wood floor and got a good size amount on the back of my maple chair. When I say the drop on the floor I immediatley wiped it up but it already stained the floor. I used nail poilsh remover, I know it takes off the finish, but I figured it would penetrate the wood a little, that was a no go. The maple chair the nail polish remover made no impact. Any advice short of sanding down and refinishing? The dye color was of course Darkest Brown and I did call the 800 number on the dye box. The operator said they only had info on how to fix a dye mistake on the hair not furniture.
Hi Ladies, thanks for the info. I tried a combination of things especially from AJ C's post as well as rubbing alcohol. The stains have faded not gone but sooooo much better. As one poster said now my house has character, the faded spots "could be" the natural would grain......sorta LOL. Thanks as always for your help! Next time I dye my sis's hair I'll drop cloth room and furniture!

Maybe get in touch with someone who does wood working or even flooring. They may be able to offer you a solution. Good luck!
Chalk it up to one of life's lessons and know your house now has character? :D Helpful tip for after the fact, I keep a stack of wet wipes handy and if I splatter, wipe cleans it right up. use it around the hairline as well and on ears, back of neck...
bummer - I have not tried any of these but here is what i found on the internet:
1) "took goof off to it. It was blonde hair dye, so it blended in well enough"
2) spray hair spray and wipe off
3) it absorbed into the wood so you need to refinish it

Store Bought Dye Removal
Store bought dye removal products are safe to use anywhere on your skin that is stained. However, follow the directions carefully and avoid contact with your eyes and mouth. Most removal products can be purchased at drugstores and supermarkets, or specialty beauty stores.

Homemade Color Remover for Skin
If you would prefer to remove the stain yourself at home, a few methods have proved effective.
* Baking Soda and Dishwashing Liquid: Mix equal parts dishwashing liquid with baking soda and apply the mixture to the stained skin with a washcloth.
* Toothpaste: Apply toothpaste to the stained skin with a washcloth.
* Lemon Juice: Apply one to two teaspoons of lemon juice to the stained skin with a washcloth.
you may want to try the least harmful options above first. the problem with refinishing is that depending on the age of the floor/chair if you sand/refinish that area it will not match the rest of the floor/ chair.
