Anyone else have Mastitis? How long does it take to go away - am taking antibiotic but the lump is still there. The aches and pains are gone too - just the lump is left.

What can I do next?

i've heard that lecithin gets rid of blocked ducts right away. check with a lactation consultant maybe....also, since you're nursing twins, if one of the girls is a more vigorous nurser, make sure you're rotating them, even if they have a preferred side. once you get settled into a routine and no longer having trouble with blockages, it's probably ok to let them pick a side, but i definately found that one of my guys would leave some behind and i'd end up plugged and sore if i didn't switch them around at that age. they did eventually settle onto preferred sides, which coincidentally were the same sides as where they were inside...funny/spooky, no? they're still nursing at 2 years. not sure how or when this ride will stop!

I had it pretty bad with 103.5 fever and all. Use a warm washcloth on the lump a few times a day and massage it a bit. It should help. Good luck!

My lactation consultant recomended pumping before I put my daughter to my breast to alleviate the pains I have. She said it will help with the flow and help her actually "empty" the breast. I'm not sure if that will help with the Mastitis but it's worth a shot.

N.:

Good suggestion to use warm compress' and massage/ I would say that if you get another bout of mastitis seeing a lactation consultant would be a good idea to find out what is happening.

Often with twins they nurse differently so the suggestion to switch sides is a good one.

BUT the breast if NEVER empty.Research indicates that babies do not remove all the milk that is there.

I hope you feel better soon
