I "met" my husband in kindergarten, and went to school all 12 years with him. We were always friendly, but never dated. At 25, we connected on classmates.com, and decided to go on a date. Needless to say, the date went well. As I stood in a line at an amusement park with him that night, I knew I would marry him. 8 weeks later, he took me to dinner one night and said he needed to go by his grandmothers home to pick up some things that he had in her garage. I got out of the car to go in and meet the grandma, and I saw him walk behind the garage, so I followed and he was standing there by a tree with a big smile. He said "I have something to show you! When I was in the 5th grade I told my parents that I wanted to marry you, and on this tree I carved this in 1989". It said "JDS loves HBT". I didn't believe him at first but then realized how old the carving really looked. You could barely see it. He grabbed my hand, and put the ring on and popped the question. It was sweet and perfect.

We went on a snowmobile trip together for New Year's Eve. We typically went with a big group, but he had planned a very cozy, romantic vacation for the two of us. We were out riding on NYE day and he loved to climb all the hills. Sometimes I would follow and other times I would wait for him on the trail (depending on the hill!!). So he goes up one and comes back down and says you've got to come up this one. It's awesome. So I follow him. It was beautiful. There was an amazing view and he found this lonely tree that was shimmering in the sun and we parked under it and decided to have lunch. Suddenly he is in front of me, kneeling on one knee and pulls out the most beautiful ring I had ever seen!!! :) He even packed a bottle of champagne in his backpack. It was perfect and I'll never forget it!!!
I also loved the fact that he got "permission" from my Dad AND my Mom who are divorced. It meant a lot to me!

My husband is such a romantic. We've been married almost 12 years now, and he will text me and say "thank you for marrying me 3,272 days ago" - he sent me roses on our 100 day anniversary and our 500 day anniversary. A limo to a very special dinner on our first anniversary, etc. He leaves me a love note every morning in a notebook by the coffee pot.

So - with that set up, you would think he planned this big production to propose, right? WRONG! We were in a very long line at a very crowded food court, he put his arms around me and said "I love you so much, will you marry me?" I thought he was joking and said "you call that a proposal?" So he got down on one knee and in a big loud raised voice said "R., you are my dream come true. Marry me, please?" People started clapping and of course I said yes. :-)

I was 18, my hubby was 17, it was the 4th of July =) He was coming over to spend the day/evening with my family and I. I had already suspected something was up b/c he had to "go somewhere after work" before he came to my house. Then he showed up wearing some casual slacks and a button-up shirt (he is a total jeans and tshirt guy!). So after we set off fireworks with my family, he asked if I wanted to go somewhere to hang out for while. He took me to a park that we had had many long walks and conversations in. Under the arbor there is where he first told me he wanted to marry me someday. When we got there, another couple was in that spot, so we walked around talking until they left. When we got there, he told me how much he loved me and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me, then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him =)
No, our families did NOT approve of our engagement at that age. He ended up joining the Army that fall and then almost 2 yrs after we got engaged, he bought me a plane ticket to Hawaii (where he was stationed at the time) and we got married in a minister's backyard overlooking Pearl Harbor. We're now approaching our 8th anniversary, so I wouldn't go back and change a thing!

Does PERSISTENT count? ;)

My husband got down on one knee a grand total of 7 times before the man wore me down. Each time was very romantic. I would take heartfelt over romantic any day of the week.

Although we talked about it.....I did not see the actual propsoal coming...Several years back we were headed towards the holiday season with Thanksgiving and Christmas and I thought if he was going to propose it would be around Christmas. Wrong! It was a week before Thanksgiving. He showed up with red roses...not unusual..We went downtown to a trendy restaurant...and had dinner..next thing I know...the waiter is bringing 2 glasses of champaign and he is down on his knee with the ring proposing....of course I said yes... :) After dinner we went for a nice walk and the second surprise was to a theater production called "Honey You're Perfect Now Change" A very memorable evening...filled with fun, love and lots of laughs!!!

For my proposal, DH waited until we were in Canada on vacation with my family. My moms parents took us to NiagaraFalls as DH never seen before (he's from RSA). Once we'd been there for a little while, looking around at the falls, he pulled me next to the railing and told me how much he loved me, and how he couldn't imagine a more perfect person for him to spend the rest of his life with... Then he popped the question and we both teared up as I said "OF COURSE!!!!" My mother was taking our picture at that moment, she said she thought something was up! Then DH went and told my moms parents and I told my mom...

Later that night, DH and my mom were talking and she gave him something. I didn't know what... On the morning of my moms wedding (we were there for her second wedding) as we were all getting dressed, DH grabbed my hand and told me to close my eyes... then he slipped something on my finger. My mom had given him HER engagement ring from my dad (they divorced when I was 12) to give to me! I always loved it, it is a flower of diamonds, very beautiful!

Mine was a surprise! Even though I knew we were going to get married at some point & knew he'd get a ring eventually & ask me, he ended up doing it earlier than I expected!

A little background to understand... hubby is part of a world-wide organization that plays LARP (live action role play games). There is a small group in our area that meets monthly for regular meetings, and at the time was always on a Thursday. I have no interest in the game, so he usually went to the meetings by himself & I stayed home with our daughter.

So one Wednesday he tells me they are having an 'emergency meeting' and it will be at a different friend's house than normal - one who has kids around our daughter's age. So he suggests our daughter & I can tag along so the kids can play. Ok, sure.

So we were sitting around, and my husband was going around the room to each member talking about how long he'd known them & been friends, etc. etc. Well, I wasn't really paying attention as it's not my group haha. Ended up stepping away to answer a phone call. Came back to find out they were waiting for me! He came up to me & surprised me with the ring & whole speech & everything :) And here we are approaching our 3 year anniversary.

And I was thankful he didn't do something out in public in front of strangers! LOL I'm waaaay too shy for that! hehe

My hubby is not extremely romantic...he has had his moments though. He proposed to me 6 year ago at my favorite spot. My parents used to own a restaurant in Metamora, IN (an 1800's Canal Town). So, I spent a lot of my days as a kid there and love the place. There is a gazebo right next to the canal and its beautiful. He surprised me one day with the suggestion of a trip to Metamora for the day. When we got there we walked around for a bit, then he suggested we sit in the gazebo for a little while. When we got in the gazebo he told me how much he loved me and how he knew that I was the only woman he could ever imagine spending his life with and then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I was SO surprised! Of course I said yes and we have been together since...but have been married for 3 yrs. It was also romantic because I found out afterwards that he had asked my parents for permission...so cute :)

We took our first vacation together in Europe (Italy and Paris) in 2004. The first night we were there, we had a great dinner in the Piazza outside of the Pantheon, shared a bottle of wine and great conversation.
After dinner, we walked over to the fountain in the center of the piazza and he got down on one knee.
We got some applause from other diners. :)

My husband and I were together for 13 years (and had a child) before he asked me to marry him. I wasn't looking for a proposal as I thought things were great the way they were. To my surprise, he proposed to me on Father's Day in front of my whole family. I was shocked. All the dads had opened their presents and then he got in the middle of the family and said he had something for someone special. He pulled out a card that he asked me to read out loud and at the end (as I was reading) he got down on one knee and pull out the ring. Needless to say, I was balling once I realized what was happening. My whole family knew he was going to propose so I was very surprised. I was not expecting it.

I met my husband through a mutual friend. After our first date, we were never apart. We lovingly shared our admiration with a twisty tie off of a loaf of bread. (formed into rings, that is)
8 weeks later, we eloped in Nevada...

We have a 4 year old and are about to purchase our first home....I CANNOT imagine my life without him....he often tells me that he cannot imagine life without me.
I guess when it works...it works!!!!
May 25th will be our 6 year anniversary.

(just a short PS) before I met my husband, I got dumped by a guy that EVERYBODY thought I would marry. During all the "it will be ok's" from everyone, I would always say, "My husband is out there, somewhere...I just have to bump into him".....OH, how right I was!!!!

Well mine probably won't seem too romantic to some, but I loved it! We were sitting in his truck snuggled up and talking and he just goes, "Hey, will you marry me?" I was kind of startled and I said "Yeah, when?" He goes "Tomorrow?" We started laughing and cranked up some Latin music and got out of his truck in some parking lot we were in an started dancing and laughing. It was so awesome and fit our relationship perfectly, we were married 3 months later ;)

I have witnessed a couple of proposals in my lifetime that were just fantastic and I had to share them. The first was at the airport. A girl was flying in to see her boyfriend. The BF had brought roses and had handed them out to everyone that was waiting outside the terminal. He even had her family fly to this location ahead of time (a complete surprise to the girl). He must have had 200 roses. He showed everyone a picture of her and as she got off the plane, all of these random people started handing her roses. As she made her way through the crowd, she was finally greeted by her family... her mom... grandparents... sisters... and then finally her Dad... they all gave her roses. Then at the end of the line was her BF who got down on one knee and proposed. It was GREAT! I don't think there was a dry eye in the room.

The second, I was in college and in a sorority. Sorority's typically have "candle passes" when someone gets engaged. Typically what happens is a candle is passed around the large group of girls. The ring is around the candle and it is passed around for all to see then when it goes around the second time, the girl who it belongs to blows out the candle to announce her engagement. Well... on this occasion, the candle made it around once, then twice it got to "the" girl who tried to pass it to the next person (her best friend), who then told her, "No... this is for you." The girl looked stunned like, "What the heck are you talking about? I'm not engaged!" Then... in walks a group of handsome soldiers in full dress uniform who make two lines going up to the girl. Swords go up in the air to make an arch and in walks the handsome BF in full dress uniform. He walks through, gets the candle and the ring, and gets down on one knee. As if that wasn't enough, he proceeds to give this speech about all the things he loves about this girl, why she is the love of his life... it was truly one of the most eloquent speeches I've ever heard. Finally he asks her to marry him. Again... not a dry eye in the room.

Those were fun to read. :) Mine was boring. My brother's was super sweet though! He's a (very) tough guy, worked on the river, a boxer, all that. He was doing some underwater welding one day and an aligator who'd been "stalking" him for days got too close, and my brother PUNCHED the 100lb gator and knocked it out! (His crew then pulled it out the water). This is the kind of guy he is.
He and his wife were friends from middle school on, but never dated. She moved away, got married, had a little boy, got divorced, and he never came back into the picture. They dated, took it very slowly, especially with a child involved. She brought her son over to meet us and we pointed at the flags where the ships were and said that's where he works. Soon he came walking over the levee dressed like a pirate (hilarious). That won the 5 year old boy over fast! With her son's permission, they started dating seriously and a year later, he goes and gets a real live professional haircut and shave (ha), and a manicure!!! He bought a suit and went to her parents house. They said he was a nervous wreck (my brother??? nothing rattled him!) but his mil (who's known him since he was 12) said she opened the door and nearly screamed. She knew what was coming, because why in the world would he show up clean and in a suit? He asked if he could speak to her and her husband. They brought him to the table and all the sisters ran in too to gawk and giggle. His big hands were shaking, his voice was trembling, but he explained that he loved their daughter and grandson, how he saw them as family, and that he would like nothing more than their permission to ask her to marry him and be his family. Everyone (even the dad) teared up, and the mom was all giddy and crying, so he said "Now one more thing, please teach her to cook" (as a joke).
With their permission, he went and bought a flight out there and arranged with her friend their scheme. The friend just asked his girlfriend to meet her for lunch after work, she had some big news for her (insinuating she and her boyfriend had gotten engaged instead!!!). On her lunchbreak, she went to the restaurant to hear the big news, and instead she was surprised by my brother walking up to them after they ordered drinks. She thought his arrival was the surprise and jumped up and hugged him and was laughing, until he got on one knee and asked her right there. Everyone clapped and cheered, and the restaurant gave champagne out. Nothing over the top, but for such a "tough guy", it was really touching to see him so soft-hearted and sincere. He's been "dad" ever since, and an awesome dad, at that! (They had a big reception party BEFORE the wedding day for close friends and family, then flew to Argentina for a wedding over the Iguazu Waterfalls).

My husband's was sweet and romantic, by a bayou, on one knee, etc. but I also love how my son-in-law proposed to our daughter. You may have heard about it. She had always wanted him to take her on the field where he played football. So she walked right into his plan. They were at the stadium so he could pick up something and she said they should go out on the field. He took her to the 50-yard line and once she had her back to the screen, he had the guys upstairs put up the proposal. She sensed something really bright and turned around. On the JumboTron it said, "Rachel, I love you! Will you marry me?" She turned around to him and there he was on one knee with the ring he designed.

He had called us earlier to get my husband's approval and for us to meet them at a restaurant afterward and surprise her. He didn't tell us how he was going to propose but that it was "really sweet" and he hoped she would say yes. Cute.

I was a first year teacher. That meant that I was working or sleeping. We lived together, and he came home on a Thursday and I was passed out (in my work clothes) on the bed. He came in with flowers and a card which read "I will love you forever" and he knelt beside the bed and asked me to marry him. I, of course, having been woken up for this lovely proposal, responded by saying "um, sure." : )

He said that he had wanted to wait until the weekend, but he got the permission from my folks and the family ring that he was going to use earlier in the week, and was too nervous to wait!

I met my husband in Middle School. We had just moved to the country and I thought he was so cute because he wasn't the typical white boy (he is half Puerto Rican) So I was about 13 and I told him "I'm going to marry you one day" and he said "Yeah right, whatever"
We stopped talking in High School and years went by, I had three other kids in a previous marriage that ended up not working out. I moved back with my mom and found him on the website My Year Book and decided he needed a good telling off for our High School years.
We got together and ended up hitting it off really well. We moved in together so he could help me with the kids while I went back to school and graduated. And one day he introduced me to a friend as his financee. Later that night I told him I wasn't his fiancee he never proposed. He told me he just assumed we would get married. I said it didn't count since he didn't ask. He said fine, left and came back later while me and his mom were baking cookies for him and the kids. He called me back to the room, pulled out a ring, got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. I said yes. He got up and kissed me and told me I always had to be so complicated, then I told him technically I proposed first when we were 13 :p
Not "awwwww romantic" but I loved it, he couldn't have did it any better :)

Well we were planning on going out on a nice date, so I go back to get ready. When I came out he pulls me to the piano and starts to sing a song that he wrote. The final words to the song were "will you marry me and be the words to my song?" He then got down on his knee and asked me. Of course I said yes and then said I'm wearing two different shoes and started laughing. We are now going on 4 years and have two beautiful girls.

My husband and I met on a blind date through a friend and went to Marie Callender's for dinner. I had accidentally found out abt the proposal bc my husband is horrible with secrets so when he decided to propose he first took me to MC for dinner, which I thought it would happen there, it didn't. He then took me to Mt Bonnell which looks over Lake Travis and great view of the sunset. As we sat there in silence watching the sunset he kept making small talk. Finally as the sun was almost completely out of sight he stood me up and got down on one knee. I cried of course and said yes.
