Those were fun to read. :) Mine was boring. My brother's was super sweet though! He's a (very) tough guy, worked on the river, a boxer, all that. He was doing some underwater welding one day and an aligator who'd been "stalking" him for days got too close, and my brother PUNCHED the 100lb gator and knocked it out! (His crew then pulled it out the water). This is the kind of guy he is.
He and his wife were friends from middle school on, but never dated. She moved away, got married, had a little boy, got divorced, and he never came back into the picture. They dated, took it very slowly, especially with a child involved. She brought her son over to meet us and we pointed at the flags where the ships were and said that's where he works. Soon he came walking over the levee dressed like a pirate (hilarious). That won the 5 year old boy over fast! With her son's permission, they started dating seriously and a year later, he goes and gets a real live professional haircut and shave (ha), and a manicure!!! He bought a suit and went to her parents house. They said he was a nervous wreck (my brother??? nothing rattled him!) but his mil (who's known him since he was 12) said she opened the door and nearly screamed. She knew what was coming, because why in the world would he show up clean and in a suit? He asked if he could speak to her and her husband. They brought him to the table and all the sisters ran in too to gawk and giggle. His big hands were shaking, his voice was trembling, but he explained that he loved their daughter and grandson, how he saw them as family, and that he would like nothing more than their permission to ask her to marry him and be his family. Everyone (even the dad) teared up, and the mom was all giddy and crying, so he said "Now one more thing, please teach her to cook" (as a joke).
With their permission, he went and bought a flight out there and arranged with her friend their scheme. The friend just asked his girlfriend to meet her for lunch after work, she had some big news for her (insinuating she and her boyfriend had gotten engaged instead!!!). On her lunchbreak, she went to the restaurant to hear the big news, and instead she was surprised by my brother walking up to them after they ordered drinks. She thought his arrival was the surprise and jumped up and hugged him and was laughing, until he got on one knee and asked her right there. Everyone clapped and cheered, and the restaurant gave champagne out. Nothing over the top, but for such a "tough guy", it was really touching to see him so soft-hearted and sincere. He's been "dad" ever since, and an awesome dad, at that! (They had a big reception party BEFORE the wedding day for close friends and family, then flew to Argentina for a wedding over the Iguazu Waterfalls).
