So, my husband is desperately needing a man space in the house. We don't have a basement. We have an 8 X 8 office that we can use. I'd love to hear ideas or suggestions to help us out in this process.

What can I do next?

Lets see....a fridge for cold beer, bags of chips, some Beano, some take out menus, a few Playboys and an Xbox should cover most of it!

A nice recliner with cup holder, remote compartment and some have a small bult in cooler (it uses those blue ice packs) A flat screen mounted on the wall with a built in DVD player and his favorite team blanket so if he falls asleep you can cover him up. that is all.

Do you have a garage? That's my husband's "man space."

If you have a space that you're going to designate as a 'man space' then I think it should be up to him to determine how he wants to use/design/decorate the space, within reason of course.

What does he want in it?
My DH has his video games, computer stuff, a mini-fridge, bar and bathroom in his (we're lucky to have a top floor for him).

Let him put it together.

You're really nice. Until we built our house with a finished basement my husband didn't even think to ask - but then again we lived in a TINY house until now. I have free reign on the rest of the house - including the guest room and bathroom in the basement, but he gets the Rec room - with some of my decision making too. Luckily we both want a football themed room, but we can't agree on teams. I will let him have his pick there. So he is making it as Redskins as possible!! Wall murals, Redskins stuff all over, a goal post around the TV on the wall, etc...

Where is your "woman" space?

My hubby is using a room we did not previously use, except for storage. It serves as an 'office' as well for him, since he is also going to school.
But is it "his" space.

Or for your husband... maybe use the garage?

My husband says, couch, flat screen, gaming system, mini fridge, maybe a dartboard.,,,,,,,and i think that most houses (aside from kids rooms) all the rooms ARE womens spaces. For the most part. Its nice for you to do this for him.

I guess I'm out of the norm here, because I don't understand all of this man cave stuff. I think it's just another thing a man needs to say he has, in order to feel more manly around his buddies. I think it's kind of silly. My husband says the whole house is his man cave. :)

Do you have a "woman's space"? If you both have a space to time out once in a while, then he can pretty much make anywhere his space (outside, a spot in the bedroom, etc) but if he is looking for a "man space" just to isolate himself from the family and the rest of his responsibilities, play video games, etc then I am not sure you want him to have a "man space"

I think it all depends on his hobbies. If it's something to do with his hands, tools, etc maybe see if there is room in your garage or a shed.

If it's video games - set up the office with whatever system, gaming chairs, fridge, etc.

I second that you should have a woman's space, even though my husband would say that the entire house is 'my space'. LOL

Hey S. some of the things you can put in the man space are arcade video games, dart boards, maybe a tv on the wall for sports, it just depends on what he likes to do and create a theme around that. My hubby is into basketball so I printed pictures offline and went to the dollar store and framed them.

SO Nice. 8x8 may be perfect for a little movie/ game room depending on budget and the lay-out of the room. A flat screen on one wall, theater seats on the opposite and a mini fridge ont he side. He'll LOVE it.

we actually did this for my dad last year at christmas. He is a HUGE Packers fan, so we went to www.riddell.com and bought him all sorts of official Packers stuff and then went to home depot and bought shelves, cases, etc. for all the stuff!!
