Before 3 1/2. We had a few false starts (mostly my fault) but when he was ready he was ready. We kept him in Pull-Ups at night for a while but once we realized they were always dry we stopped buying them, so he's been night trained almost as long. I was quite shocked because I fully expected night problems to last years, so I would not be worried if that takes a lot longer.

My son is three, he is 39 months. Right at his third birthday he was ready and now a few months later he is doing great. He sleeps through the night and we have very few accidents. I LOVE having him out of diapers :D I tried when he was two, it was horrible. Then when I had my second I tried again but I just didn't have the time to devote to it. When my second was six months old, my big boy was ready and I could actually take the time I needed to. He was actually trained in three days, it was amazing, because he was ready and was wanting to wear all his cool underwear :D

I have 2 boys who are 6 and 3. I hate potty training so I don't. I put the little potty out and buy some undies and talk about using the potty, but I don't pressure or run them back and forth to the bathroom. One day when my oldest had just turned 4 and I knew he was able to control his bowels completely, I put him in his undies and he was done(day and night). I think he may have had a couple of accident the first week, but that was it. My youngest has decided to try the potty a few times with success. He'll probably be in undies in a few months(by 3 1/2).

my poor older baby. he was such a guinea pig.
my younger was 3, 3.5, something like that. but he was much more stubborn about having things on his timetable anyway.

My son is 2.5 and we're not even close. *Sometimes* I can get him to go on the potty, if I bribe him with a cookie. Otherwise, he just says "nope!" and throws a fit if I try to push him.

I'm not worried about this. As my grandpa used to say, no healthy kid ever went to kindergarten in diapers. :)

J.....I want to say that as a mother of twin boys (they will be 4 next week) I felt pressure to have them potty trained by a certain age because of OTHER people's kids being potty trained. So we tried to start them before they were ready (right around 2.5-3 ) and it was a NIGHTMARE!! Now I still have one who has poop issues...he holds it a lot and we have to give him stool softener on a daily basis. There was one woman on here who said she put absolutely no pressure on her boys and I wish I had gone that route. I can easily see my boys still being in pull ups at night for at least another 6 months to a year. And guess what....I'm not gonna stress about it. I just don't want you to look at some of the responses of "2 yrs", "28 months" and feel like you need to even the score by pressuring your little guy. The most important thing is that he feels secure and not like he will be punished if he has accidents or doesn't go in the potty.

Hope this helps!! BTW...isn't being a mommy of boys the best!!!

I think I win the "I have the oldest child" to finally be potty trained award (lol). No, at the time we were going through this, I was really upset. I started training my son before he was 3. He wasn't completely trained until he turned 5! I thought I was going out of my mind and that he would never get it.

Fortunately for me, he really did get it. We've never had nighttime wetting or any incidences during the day ever since...phew.

3 1/2.

Ugh - potty training was really rough for us, particularly #2. He would hold it until I had underpants or a pull-up on and THEN poop. This went on for about 4 months and it drove me completely crazy. Stickers didn't work. Treats didn't work.

Finally, I took him to a store and told him to pick out any toy he wanted and he could play with it AFTER he pooped in the potty. The next morning he did it perfectly - turns out he knew how to do it the whole time but was just being stubborn.

Fortunately, the toy he picked out was actually 2 toys in one package, so we repeated the bribe on the 2nd day. On the 3rd day, I had a toy in reserve that I would allow him to play with after he pooped on the potty and then would put it away again until next time. This worked really well in terms of breaking the expectation that he would get a huge toy each time he pooped!

So, happily ever after, he was fully potty trained (except night, of course - still working on that) and has had very few accidents since. I am not a fan of big bribes, but this was one time where it really worked.

my son was totally potty trained by three. HOWEVER. we moved when he was almost 3 1/2, and he completely regressed. accidents EVERY day. no more dry nights. I was a sad mama :(

i realized after about 2 months that this was not going away on it's own, and went back to square 1 with the sticker chart and all that. i made sure never to make him feel bad, just dealt with it like anything else. within a week or two he didn't need the sticker chart anymore.

at night, i literally gave it up. at 4 years old, (9 months later) he still has only woken up dry like twice. i am not thrilled, but i am content to let him keep the pullups at night. it's literally a battle i have tried to fight, and can't. SO as long as he's dry during the day (Other than the occasional accident, once every couple weeks maybe) i am fine with it. i have never been one of those mamas that pressured my kid in order to have bragging rights...i have plenty of those just the way he is! :)

He was asking for a diaper to poop in and I did that for 4 months, then I cut a hole in it, put it on him, sat him on the potty and that was it, never asked for one after that!

3. Both of them. And completely for me is going by themselves, not needing me to take them every hour, and not having accidents at night. I waited until they were ready, and both of them, around their 3rd birthday's were ready. It took about a week and a half with the first son (and we had a lot of accidents the first couple of days) and about 3 days with the second son (and we only had one accident a day for three days). Don't push it...wait until he is ready. Most little boys that I know, and I know a LOT (lol) were ready at about 3.

Fully potty trained during the day at 3. But will be 4 in a month and we still use pull ups at night.they are wet 2-3 nights per week. But I think that is something the have to do on there own. You can't make them wake up to pee. So I don't mind the pull ups at night :) Good luck! This was such a messy phase.....lol

Middle son is 2 and a half and he's potty training US....

A lot depends on the kid, his independence level and well, it's hard to put into words, but I am pretty sure my 6 yo likes to p*ss dad off. Middle kid would do almost anything to PLEASE dad...

Oldest was almost 3 - and although it was a rough, powerstruggle for 3 days, it only took 3 days and then he was completely day/night trained. The younger showed interest very early (18 months) and I wasn't ready. I started training him around 2.5 and it took a 2-3 months for him to stop having constant accidents. For the most part he is day/night trained, though he still has a night accident about once a month.

My son was three months before 3. It was like light switch, one day he wouldnt the next day he did. No accidents no more pull ups and only had a few accidents at night over the next couple of months. One thing that helped was him watching his Dad and he wanted to wear BIG BOY underwear like Dad. So I went and got plain old white underwear like Dads. So much for the cute ones with Toy Story on them. Good Luck. If it gives you any encouragement, my daughter was much harder than my son. She is 3 and 4 months and we still use pull ups at night and most of the time they are wet when she gets up. She did wake me the other night to go, so I hope the end of pull ups is near.

My grandson was a bit short of 3, as I remember, and it took only a couple of weeks. His parents started training when he showed real interest (though the "pre-training stage" of books, games, demonstrations, etc., had gone on for a while by then). I've seen other families' little boys train anywhere between 2.5 and 4.5. I think most every child is eager, or at least willing, for this big developmental accomplishment when they are actually mature enough, physically, emotionally and cognitively. Once they reach that point, success comes decisively, whether they've been "in training" for a day or a year.

My son is 3 years and 5 months. We started training him back in July, and it's still not perfect. He's got issues with pooping on the toilet. If we don't catch him in time and direct him to the bathroom, he will go in his pants. I hear this is VERY common with boys. We haven't had any nighttime accidents, so we didn't use pull ups, but I hear those are commonly used until well into age 4 if needed. Good luck! I have to add, if you're trying to potty train and it's become stressful, just let it go. The more stressful it becomes for you and the child, the more they will have accidents, etc. Once I learned to just relax about the whole thing, he finally started going on the potty by himself.

I just went thru this so feel free to email with any more questions! It's so hard!

My twin boys just turned 3 1/2. They are 90% day pee trained meaning they have pretty infrequent pee accidents (you know as soon as I say that they will regress, LOL) and we are still working on the poop. One son often waits to poop until I put his pull-ups on for nap, and the other is a "withholder" and constipated so I am trying to find the magic formula of Miralax for him. Oh, and I started before they turned 3. It has been 8 months. Seriously, it is the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with in parenting and I have dealt with a lot of stuff!

3 yrs & 3 months for our oldest and without accidents from Day 1. And for the record, we introduced the idea to him much earlier, but he very calmly and very verbally told us, "I will start potty training after I turn 3." He had a goal and we respected that.

Youngest asked to use the potty seat at 21 months and was done "training" by 26 months...Meaning, it took 5 months before we went 100% accident free. Again, this was nothing we did. Both those boys had a pre-set potty timer and we were lucky enough to hear it and let it guide us and them.
