I have always wondered what works best for you and your daughter as far as bangs or no bangs?? I am bouncing around the idea to giver her bangs. She currently does not have them....and times I wonder if she looks a little sloppy.

What can I do next?

You have no idea how hard it is for a little girl to grow out bangs. Think about the clipping them back in that awkward stage, pony tails with the bangs sorta but not staying in.

Think really hard before you do it cause you can't glue the hair back on.

I started bangs on my daughter when she was around two, due to the fact that she refused to keep them back in a barrette, and I couldn't stand to see them in her eyes all day. Now I wish I had pushed the barrettes a little harder. We went through a number of really bad (crooked, uneven, etc) bang cuts until I actually started taking her to the salon I go to. She's 4 now, and its still a struggle for her to sit still for the 5 minutes it takes to get them cut.

However... except for the cutting, day to day maintenance is a breeze.

I still kind of wish I had never done it.

I love the "you can't glue them back on" comment!

I let my girls decide how they want to wear their hair as soon as they were old enough to have an opinion. I have one daughter who loves her hair short with bangs. (She hates having her hair brushed.) The other two are longer without. (They're tweens and that's the "cool" thing.)

I say think about doing your daughter's hair. Does she like to sit still for it? Is she old enough to have a say in what she wants? Then go from there.

Hmm. Well, my DD is 5. She does not have bangs. Once I cut a few in her hair because there were short pieces of hair that didn't seem to want to grow...but they were annoying.

Like SH said, it can be nice and neat or sloppy w/ or w/o bangs...

How old is your DD? Does she have an opinion? My DD very much has an opinion. :( She has banned pigtails. So sad.

HTH!

I have four girls: 3, 4, 6 and 8. I'm all for NO bangs. I had bangs when I was little and it didn't look right cause my hair is more on the curly and thin side. My girls ALSO have curly, wavy and thin-ish hair. Bangs just don't look right with that hair.

There's also the problem of WHEN they/you want to grow them out. Always that awkward stage... And also, when my hormones were changing as I got a bit older... say, 10, 11, 12... I still had bangs and the fact that they were there made me break-out more on my forehead.

ALSO, they are harder to maintain. Only certain lengths look appropriate so that means more cuts, and what if they took a bath the day previously and slept on their bangs wrong? you can't just put it in a ponytail like the rest of the hair...

Okay, I'm more against bangs than I thought I was... LOL:)

Bangs DO look cute on the right hair/girl though:)

How old is your daughter?
If older, then she can decide.

My daughter is now 8... and she prefers no bangs.
When younger, she did have bangs. Then she wanted to grow it out.

Hair, bangs or not, can look sloppy. It depends on hair upkeep, brushing it, putting it in a pony tail, using conditioner or hair shine products etc. Keeping the hair, regularly trimmed so that split-ends are trimmed off. Split-ends, makes hair look messy too.

Or use headbands, clips, barrettes etc.

My daughter is 6 & has never had bangs. I keep her longer hair clipped off to the side in a cute barrette or we use a cute headband. It is a way for her to "accessorize".

She wanted bangs last spring, so the hairdresser cut her some longer. layered bangs. They gave her some shape & body.

My almost 8 y/o doesn't like it ( right now), and my almost 2 y/o love those! She looks sloppy but that's her personality she's like a little punk rock star.

My daughter has always had bangs because her hair grew out like Hitler's. It was all long in the front and nothing in the back. She's 6, turning 7 in October. She now is growing her bangs out. I offered her the option of growing most of it out and leaving just a thin layer of bangs so they could lay on her forehead or easily brush back into her hair. She chose to grow it all out. Her bangs are not straight either. She has waves that doesn't make her bangs lay straight. They go crazy kinky so I had to keep them trimmed often and it was a pain. If she sweat a bit they'd kink up and annoyed her. So she's growing hers out to see how she'll like them. Who knows. She may choose to get bangs again but I'll suggest a thin layer of bangs next time. If you try bangs, try just a thin layer to see how it'll look. That can always be combed into the rest of the hair if she doesn't like it.

My daughter is 2, but has waist length straight hair. She has no bangs - I just don't like the look of bangs. Not to mention that it then requires more upkeep and cutting and maintenance to keep looking unsloppy.

My daughter is now 3 and I asked this question about 5 months ago and received great responses also. I decided to let her bangs grow out and it was the best decision. I wish I would have held out when she was little and not cut them in the first place. She has mid-back length hair and it is curly. Her bangs are just getting long enough to tuck a little behind the ear. She tells me she likes her crazy hair :)

My 5 y.o. has bangs-just got them last year. I think they're adorable and easy to upkeep. I just trimmed them for the first time and they actually look good. We went with bangs after a lot of thought b/c she wouldn't/couldn't keep a ponytail or barrette in her hair all day at school. In so many of her pre-k pictures, you can't see her face through the hair. The bangs work really well for us now and she can certainly grow them out whenever she wants to.

I think bangs can be cute if the child has poker straight hair. If there is a little wave to it or curl I think they just don't look right. I also like thin bangs. I always wonder what the hair stylist or more likely the mom was thinking when they cut bangs starting in the middle of the head.

Hello,
My 6 yo is growing out her bangs currently. She had bangs since she was a baby, though. She has a bit of wave in her hair so unless I blew dry her bangs, they always did look sloppy and going every which way. Now that they are longer (ear length currently), the weight of the hair has straightened them out and her hair doesn't look as messy, IMO.

Depends on the kid. My SD did not have them til she was 8 and has long since grown them out again. My DD doesn't have them because I'm loathe to cut her curls, honestly, but if she had straight hair like SD, we'd likely go the bangs and braids route. My sister and I had bangs as kids and neither of us do now. I think we looked cute and it wasn't a lot to maintain, just the bangs. Get good with a pair of scissors and a comb.

I think bangs are cute on some girls. My daughter had them until she started school. Then we let her hair grow out.

The most important thing, I think, is whether or not you keep bangs, just make sure you find a great stylist to cut your daughter's hair.
