Hi everyone, when i had my 20 week ultrasound i was told my placenta was low. I am now 24 weeks and have been concerend ever since. My obgyn told me that 95% who show this there placenta migrates up on their own. Im sure i will have a repeat ultra sound somewhere around 30 weeks to check if it has migrated up. i was woundering if anyone else has experienced this, also is there any signs or suggestion that it hasnt moved. any advice would help. thanks.

What can I do next?

same thing happened to me and it turned out fine. i think that this is just what many people start out with... but then it moves. i avoided a c-section and was very happy... hope you do, too. previa is the one you need to worry about.

Hi C.
The same thing happened to me....the doctor said it so matter-of-factly during an ultrasound at her office very early in my pregnancy (I would say about 10 weeks or so?), and I was like "what?".... She mentioned it a few more times, till I was pretty much close to delivering. And it's true, she said it moves up on its own as the baby grows. The only thing she told me was that I might experience some spotting (which I never did) and possibly feel a lot of pressure down there from the baby's head from time to time. I guess it was more than normal - I felt it, but had nothing to compare it to.
When the chips were down, the delivery went fine - vaginally and after about 5 hours of labor. Not bad for a first baby. You will be fine as well.

Shouldn't worry much. I'm an OB nurse & this situation usually resolves itself. The hospital where you will deliver should have a note on your prenatal chart (I'm sure they do). You should watch for more than minor vaginal bleeding & call if it happens, otherwise, don't worry, continue good prenatal care & your caretaker should monitor you. Can't stress the importance of calling for any concerns. My hospital always has a physician available to address after-hours calls; of course, call during office hours if it's not an emergency.

C.,
I had the same things with my son when I was pregnant and when I went for the second sonogram the placenta moved up all on it's own. I was able to have my son ( my 1st child) natural and only 6 hours of labor.
Just wait till the second sonogram to see it will most likely move into the right place. I would not worry to much, that is what my doctor told me. It is weird because I am also pregnant with my second child and I did not it with this child.

Best of luck with 2nd baby!!

Hi C.,

Nothing to worry about,
He is right i have had this twice and both times the placenta MOVED and I delivered Vaginally, and worst case scenario, you do a C-Section, and get 4 extra weeks vacation from work,-

Believe me, it will not harm your baby, which is GOOD,
and it will most likely MOVE, both of mive did.
