Losing My Sanity!!!

I have just hadmy third child and while I know that every child is different my son is so very challenging. He crys for no reason he will stop crying if I hold him but if I so much as move he starts screaming again. He does have some nights where he sleeps well (meaning that he only wakes up for his bottle) and other nights he just squirms and whines all night. It would not be as hard if I had help but dad drives cross country for a living, and I also have two other young children....please help what can I do. I feel as if I am slowly losing my sanity, and will not be able to function properly for my elder children or myself. I have days in which I can't remember what time I gave him his last bottle, or if I have even eaten. Dad coming off the road is not possible, and my family lives in Maryland.

What can I do next?

K.,
Congratulations on baby number 3!

My first child was a lot like your 3rd. She had colic for the first 6 months and cried all the time unless she was being held. She typically only slept 2 hours a night (without being held).
Here's some of the things I did: swaddled her as tightly as I could without it creating circulation problems for her, purchased a baby sling/carrier (kind of looks like a kangaroo pouch) to put her in so I was "holding" her and still had two hands available to do laundry, do some light cooking (microwave dinners, sandwiches, etc), while being swaddled I'd let warm water run over the top of her head (trick the nurses at the hospital did), tried a pacifier (didn't work for her, but it might for you), had white noise (vacuum running, static from the radio, anything that after a while would annoy me worked for her), a baby swing/vibrator (swing that rocks and vibrates - was one of our better investments). I also found a support group for moms - something so that I got out of the house a few days a week for playtime, coffee. This gave me some fresh air, other moms to talk to, and usually a couple other hands to help hold, bounce, rock, sway, dance, and talk to the baby - that was a huge help!
Some of the things only gave a few minutes reprieve, others would get better results. As time went by she grew out of her colic state and things got much better! You might want to talk to your pediatrician about it and he/she might be able to suggest some other (newer) ways to calm a baby.
During the first 6 months of my first child's life I too felt like I was going insane. There were days when I felt like I was in a daze and at the end of the day I couldn't tell you one thing that had happened that day other than the baby cried. This was a hard experience for me because she was my first and I had no clue what to do with a baby.
I hope some of the ideas above work for you!

Have you checked with your pediatrician to see if he might have acid reflux? It causes them to have great pain and burning. My daughter had it at one week till she was a year old. SHe acted exactly like you son only she projectile vomited as well. As soon as she was put on Zantac she stopped crying all the time and was a pleasant baby. My family is also in Maryland, western Maryland. I haven't met anyone else who is from there. Hope you get some relief. Oh by the way the only thing that helped her before she got on the medicine was lying stomach to stomach on me. The pressure helped the pain.

oh how I know the feeling. We live in Villa Rica I too have three children ages 8,4,2 and my two year old was the same way she still is as an infant up until 8 months she sleep in her car seat beside our bed. She had reflux and colic it was so awful. I hope things get better. We don't have family here either and my husband works really long hours. How old is your son?
