Looking to Loose the 'Baggage'

When I was in high school I was very heavy (like 220 pounds heavy). Since then I have been up and down with my weight, anywhere from 145 to 185 (the latter being now after having my second child). I am finding it extremely difficult to loose not so much the weight, but the shape. After having been that heavy for so many years, I have severe unwanted skin around my midsection and slightly on my inner thighs (but that's workable). As I start loosing weight, my clothes are fitting nicer and the scale numbers decrease but there is always this 'pouch' of skin that makes me feel like a failure. I have seriously been considering a tummy tuck for a few years but am affraid of the pain and the surgery. Could you please give me advice of procedures available, doctors you reccommend or any other issues you'd like to express. My family doesn't think I need surgery so they are not very supportive. They obviously have no idea what I hide under my clothes though. My fiance is very supportive with any decision I would make. My happiness and health come first. (I have severe back pain, caused from an injury but worsened by poor posture and strain on muscles.)

I think you worked hard to get where you are And congrats!! If a tummy tuck would make you feel good as a reward for all your hard work then by all means check into it. I would be too cheap but that's your call. I would also think you might not want to do that if you ever plan to have more kids. Catch 22 right.
I think as long as your expectations are reasonable then you should not worry about your family. Talk to the drs and make a choice then. Nothing i do to my body is going to make me look like Christie Brinkley no matter how old she is now she is still incredible. So i will never look like her but i can look like the Best Me.
Just make sure you check it out thoroughly to be safe!!

There is a blog called www.Pittsburghmom.com and the writer had a tummytuck that she documented on her site. She seems really nice and would probably be willing to answer any questions that you have.

Congrats on your baby and the battle you're winning losing weight (yo yo-ing is normal-it's great you can lose it!). And thank god you have supportive people not making this harder.

As for the excess skin/ weight, I would give it a little time. All my city friends were like, "you'll get a tummy tuck immediately of course" to me before my kids were even born. They never had kids, and didn't understand that it really takes time for all the "swelling" and excess skin to really go away. With concentrated proper muscle training to the area, you can reshape it. It took months of hard work at the gym (I'm older, so it didn't vanish in weeks like on a 20-something celebrity), but I got my belly back after first two pregnancies and plan to this time as well with my third due in July.

There are times when you feel like you have been permanently stretched out, gained too much weight to ever go back, have a totally different physique, and you'll never recover, but the human body is amazing. You can restructure your muscle layers and burn away the fat. It takes time and hard work. But once you do it, maintenance is easy.

185 isn't bad at all after a pregnancy! you can totally cut away that middle section within a year. Get into some specialized instruction from an instructor until you fully understand your muscles and can do the work on your own. Learn what types of foods to add to your diet to clear away impurities, give you strength and cut the swelling. You will see great improvements, and you can always do the tuck later!

Good luck!

Give it some more time. Need to first think if you plan on having more kids or not cause if you are, not worth having it now.

Good Luck

J.,
I think this is a decision only YOU can make for yourself--don't worry about your family's opinions! Can you afford the surgery? And...if it is any consolation, I personally feel that 95% of the world looks better with their clothes ON! And please don' let a pouch of skin cause you to feel like a failure. Best of luck to you.
