I just moved to South Jersey from Central Jersey and am looking for a pediatrician. I tried one local to me and was not very happy. I used a family pratice where I was and loved them. Any suggestion are great!
Also, does any one know of local play dates or groups? I used to do gymboree, my gym, and activities through the hospital and not knowing the area or any one local I am kinda lost.

What can I do next?

I recommend Advocare Ped in Blackwood. My husband and I had a consulation with them before our son was born. We are very happy with the staff and the hours of the office. Their number is ###-###-####.
Also I had a home visit from a nurse from Vitua Hospital. She gave me a huge packet called Parent's Resource Guide which contains local attractions, groups, and the like. They also have classes at the hospital for moms and babies. Check them out at www.virtua.org or 188-Virtua-3. Best of luck.

We go to Williamstown Pediatrics and love it. We have been there for about five years. Prior to that we were at two we were unhappy with. I know there are a few MOPS groups in the area if you google MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers), to pick one. I hope this helps!

I know it's a little late, and hopefully you've already found a pediatrician you like, but I wanted to offer my help, just in case. My son and my nephew both go to UMDNJ on Fries Mill Rd. I know someone had suggested them also, and I wanted to reinforce that suggestion. We've always had a great experience there with all the doctors and staff. They always listen and care. We had a very bad pediatrician when my son was a baby (Dr. Dahodwala in Hammonton -just in case anyone needs warning). Thank God, my son never had any major problems, but as a first-time Mom, I expected so much more from a pediatrician. She never asked me any questions about him, his eating, his anything! She didn't even ask me if I had any questions. She didn't seem to care and actually misdiagnosed him. Thank God, he was just about to turn 2 at the time, and I switched him (on his birthday) to my family doctor who wouldn't take him until he was 2 years old. (I had to switch him to my nephew's pediatrician (UMDNJ) when they stopped treating children under 6, and we had moved to Newfield). Dr. Dahodwala tried to tell me that my son had the croupe because of his cough, but his cough sounded to me like his normal congestion cough. So, I skeptically got the prescription and refused to give it to him after reading the information and warnings on it. It was a type of steroid and the info was quite scary. So, I went to the office on his birthday to have his files transferred, and was given a hard time by her office person, who had always talked down to me (very ignorant!). She was annoyed by my request and that it also meant I wanted to cancel the follow-up appointment they had made him because of the strong medication they wanted him to take, and she said that I would have to pay to have the files copied and stuff. I was thinking, "Whatever it takes to get me out of this place," and pulled out my check book right away. Sorry, to have gone into all this info you probably don't need, but I guess I feel an obligation to warn people whenever possible. I hope you find the right place for your son (and your new baby, hopefully, in the near future)!

Hi,

I have a little boy who will be three in December and we have used Dr. Lerch ###-###-#### in turnersville since he was born and really like him and the other doctors in the practice (except for the nurse practioner who is ok but seems to want to order too many test). I also have two teenaged girls and when they were little I used to go to a mom's group that met at the Pfieffer Center, I believe they are still there and they would form play dates based on your schedule and childs age. I would check with Community affairs ###-###-#### and ask them if they know a contact for it. Hope this helps.

Not sure who you went to, but I use Laurel Pediatrics in Sewell. I like them a lot. there is 1 doc there that I don't like, so I always ask for the same 2 docs! They are very accomodating for "emergencies", and they are open 7 days a week. They are not a family practice, but I do like them. HTH!

Hi I live in Hammonton and go to Advocare Hammonton Pediatrics. Advocare is a large group with a number of offices in S. Jersey. I've met most of the physicians in my office & I've even been to one of the other offices. I have loved everyone so far! They are strong parent advocates. They want to work with you & with your beliefs. (We have refused a few vaccines w/o any problems). At least one of the offices is open every day of the week, so if you ever have an emergency, you can see a doctor. And with so many doctors to choose from you can definitely find one that fits your personality. You are able to schedule with a particular doctor or just pick a day/time that works best for you. And the staff is wonderful too. Just Google Advocare and you'll be able to see which office is closest for you. I too am a SAHM, but I don't know of any play groups in this area. There is a gymboree in Mt. Laurel & I think they were going to open one in Williamstown. I would google gymboree.
