Hi moms!!
I'm going to be throwing a baby shower for a neighbor friend of mine. While I've been to many and have had my own, I'm new at throwing & hosting it. I'd love any ideas you have as far as favors, prizes, etc. I've got the theme figured out, but now I'm at a stop with the little things, especiall prizes and favors. It's going to be a fairly small shower at my house, and I think only about 30 guests are going to be invited.
Any ideas and/or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
J.

I just helped throw a shower for my brother and his wife who were expecting a boy (born May 3!). We did personalized keychains for all that attended and sent gifts. People loved receiving something stylish and functional-a gift they could keep and use!!! We did the keychains in brown and blue (for boy) and wrapped in simple gift bags by Martha Stewart we bought at Michael's. I made the ribbon keychains myself and felt that if I had a chance to do it again I would! If interested you can see some of my work at: jabstweettweet.etsy.com.
Best of luck finding the perfect favor!

Hi J....My baby is 7 months old and this past August we had my baby shower and one of the things we did and I loved it was on the invitation we asked that if you bring a pack of diapers any size you will be entered into a drawing (our prize was dinner for two to Olive Garden) and I recieved so many packs of diapers that my husband and I didn't have to buy diapers for our baby until she was 5 months old. (We also had around 50 people that were invited.) It was the best thing ever!! Hope you like the Idea and good luck at hosting the shower.

HI J.

My family and I we have always done bath and body works. They have small inexpensive products that can be used as favors. WE tied the travel size bottles(2) together with a pretty ribbon and favor tags. They also have wrapped soaps in all smells. We also got really nice baskets and filled it with products from there for big game prizes. Hit up the semi-annual sale and youll really make out great! If the sale is not going on, we have taken a trip to Gurnee Mills and found tons at the B&BW outlet there. We usually made our baskets because it was cheaper than buying their pre-packaged ones. Ive also found things at Victorias secret semi-annual sale, like 75 cent mirror compacts! Ive always appreciated receiving favors that i would actually use, lets face it dont we all throw away the clothes pins and rubber ducky candy??lol
Majority of these are all women and we know how we love the beauty products!
Good Luck & Have Fun!!

J.,

Unless you are going to do expensive favors, I would stick with something small. I usually throw my favors away. Some really cute ones have been homemade cookies wrapped in tulle with little baby bottles to tie it. Then it had a recipe card to go with it. Another favor I used was little tea lights wrapped in tulle. Prizes are easy, Target usually has the best selection at their dollar bins. Love the bath and body works idea too. Michaels has some candy molds with a baby theme, those would be cute as a favor too. This is a great web site. It might give you a few ideas. http://www.beau-coup.com/most-popular-baby-shower-favors.htm

Hi J.,

For prizes, I would stick with stuff the women would actually use. The lotion/bodywash set stuff is nice, just keep in mind not everyone can use it. I have super sensitive skin with eczema for instance and can't use anything with fragrance. At my baby shower, they gave giftcards to places like Borders, the movie theatre, restaurants. Now with a lot of people hurting in this economy, I think even a giftcard to a grocery store would be appreciated. Giftcards are easy to buy and give, and most people will actually like using them. For favors, I would steer clear of anything cheesy that people will just toss in the garbage. Things like porcelain baby carriages and such. It just seems like such a waste. Mine was in the summer and my mom gave everyone a small potted plant. I saw many of these at their houses months later when I visited them, so I guess they liked them. Just keep it small and reasonably priced. I also threw a very small shower for a friend once at my home. I made zucchini bread. I took four thick slices and wrapped in pretty bags. I attached a thank you and the recipe and gave them as favors. People loved them and still comment on how good the recipe is and that they make it for their families. (I can send you the recipe if you would like it). Good Luck!

For the shower's I've hosted I've used bath and body works and stationary as prizes. For party favors I've made sugar cookies in the shape of ducks/ blocks/, ect. that are baby themed. I've also made chocolates and used molds that have baby shapes. These are cheap and easy. The chocolate i just buy the white chocolate chips in the baking aisle and add some shortening. The molds you can get at Michal's and if you use there coupons it's not to expensive. I usually dyed the candy and icing for the cookies pink and blue. Another idea I did was put pink and blue hershey kisses in some small container (i think i used a small glass volive holder) and wrapped it in the mesh material and tied it with blue and pink ribbon. When i did this one it was right after Easter and I just bought the hershey kisses they sell for easter and used the pink and blue ones. So if it's soon it's perfect timing. Even if you don't use them as favors you can always buy the herseys and put them in candy dishes for the guest. Good luck!

Hi. I'm not sure if your shower has passed already, but I recently started a home business making diaper cakes. They are different than most diaper cakes on the market. My website is www.mydiaperbabycakes.com. I can give you 20% off if you mention mamasource when you order. Thanks!
