At a couple of showers I went to the people hosting the shower made a well. At one shower people were asked to bring their favorite baby product for the well-shampoo, bath, etc... and at the other to bring their favorite kid book for the well.
Hi,
I am currently planning my sister's baby shower. I have never done this before. I want to come up with something difference as a favor. Any ideas?
Thank you all for your wonderful ideas. My aunt and I decided to go along with the theme. We are having my sister's baby shower at a Chinese restaurant. I ordered fortune cookies with personalized messages. We plan on having the restaurant hand out the cookies. This is a big secret and we can't wait to hear everyone's responses.
At a couple of showers I went to the people hosting the shower made a well. At one shower people were asked to bring their favorite baby product for the well-shampoo, bath, etc... and at the other to bring their favorite kid book for the well.
Candy Pacifiers...Use frosting to "glue" a jelly bean into the center of a lifesaver. "Glue" another lifesaver perpendicular to the first one for the handle.
For a more life-sized version use gummy rings in place of lifesavers and regular size jelly beans.
Melt white candy melts in a baggie. Cut a corner off. Lay gummy rings out on wax paper and fill one gummy ring with enough melted white chocolate to hold a second gummy ring standing on end.
When hardened, "glue" the jelly bean "nipple" to the pacifier with more white chocolate.
Speed the process by putting in freezer for a minute to set up.
then tie pink and blue ribbons to them or put them in little bags
When my sister gave me a baby shower last year the favors were votive candles in the flavor of cinnamon bun and they were in a small box with a note attached saying about "the bun in the oven" It was so cute and so appropriate
Hope this helps
Three cute things I've seen:
1. A shower puff and a mini shower gel with a note saying, "From so-and-so's shower to yours."
2. A small, flowering plant.
3. A jar filled with cookie ingredients with the recipe on a tag attached with a ribbon. They did this for my shower with a cookie mix with pink M&Ms that looked really cute.
Have fun!
dose the mom to be have a theme? sometimes you can work of that.
My nursery was a fish theme, so they just worked of that. i have seen a bootie basket- where everyone brings a pair of bootys for the baby. local craft stores will have some good ides.
I've thrown tons of baby showers in my days but one of my favorite favors was a candle with the following poems attached:
Here's a candle for you to light,
Once the stork has made its flight.
With the flicker of the flame,
Say a prayer in the baby's name.
A little candle for you to light,
Once the stork has made its flight.
The flame will glow to celebrate,
Baby _______'s arrival date.
This is a gift for you today,
So when I'm born you'll light my way.
And when that happy day is here,
Burn this candle and spread good cheer.
Here is a candle for you today,
to light when baby is here to stay.
When you light it's flickering flame
Say a prayer in baby's name.
I've also requested that guests bring their favorite childhood storybook to build the little one's library.
I've seen the shower gels as gifts from one shower to another.
Good luck!!
burn mix cd's of mommy's favorite music with some kid friendly songs thrown in. we did this for my son's bday party and it was a huge hit. easy and cheap too!
Hi J.,
I don't know how big your group is, but if you go to kleenex.com you can personalize your own kleenex box. Also, if you go to mymms.com you can create personalized M&M's. I don't know how much these items cost, but they're unique ideas!
Hi J., I just threw a shower for my sister. It didnt turn out as we had hoped but it was still nice. We had bunny's made of wash clothes with carrot shaped bages of M&Ms as her favors. If you tell me a little about it I could give you some more ideas...do you have a theme? Do you know if she is having a boy or girl?
Colored napkins folded like diapers with those lil brass safetly pins in front holding it together filled with mints or nuts... Hm.. I guess nuts would be for boys?? Anywho, I also take a pkg of disposable diapers and roll them one at a time end to end and put baby things inside the rolls. Tie the outside with a ribbon pink blue or yellow or green. You can use it as a centerpiece with all the bottles, scrubbies, diaper pins, teethers, binky, rattle, and a stuffed animal (baby's first teddy bear) int he middle of it. This way, there is a nice decoration for the nursery but they can USE it when the diaper man forgot to get another pkg on his way home from work!
Hi J.
we had magnets done for our son't baptism. They were different and everyone thought it was a cute idea. You have a variety of magnets to choose from and personalize them. www.favorlady.com
hope this helps

Hi J.,
I will never forget the little homemade diapers filled with mints except my favor was filled with raisinettes! It has been almost 23 years since my baby shower and I have never seen anyone do that since then. They took little pieces of cloth and dipped them in wax to hold a diaper shape.
Good luck,

at a small shower that was thrown for me, the hostess gave out glass candle jars with candles that smelled like baby powder. then she decorated them in colored ribbon. i think she got them at ac moore, i know she practically lives there. also if you are looking for a nice center piece or gift, try a diaper cake. i have been making them and they are so cute. i threw a shower once and made the basket with the little baby and lace with mini pacis and diaper pins. you can get that stuff at michaels or ac moore. good luck.
Hi J.,
When I had a shower for my sister, I used small diapers with blue and pink tissue filled with Hershey's kisses inside and put pink and blue ribbons on the front of them. It depends on how much you want to spend but it was cheap and easy.

For my baby shower when I had my daughter we made boo-boo bunnies as the favor. You make them out of washclothes, ribbon and the wiggly eyes. They are used to put an icecube in when someone gets a boo-boo and because most people who go to a baby shower have children they make really good favors. I hope you have fun and enjoy your niece or nephew.
For my baby shower, my sister, mom and I made magnets in the shape of teddy bears. We bought fabric that looked like fur and a separate white cotton fabric. We used a cookie cutter to make the shape of the bear. The cotton fabric we glued on (with a hot glue gun) in the shape of a diaper. We added a face with fabric paint, googly glue on eyes, a mini pacifier to the hand and mini safety pins on the diaper.
Another idea for favors is to use card stock to create your own picture frames that you can slide a picture into. You can put a magnet on the back and embellish the frame as you want, say with decorations and the words "It's a boy!" or "It's a girl!" or if you don't know "Guess what I am!" Then if it is after the baby is born, you could put a copy of a picture(s) of the baby in the frame or if before a copy of one of the sonogram pictures in the frame. It would be unique to your sister but if you didn't use any wording just decorated the frame your guests could also use it later for their own personal photos.
Anyhow, good luck with the planning! I, also, liked the idea of the homemade soaps that someone else sent. Stores like Michaels have a lot of different forms for homemade soap as well.
well im on the crafty side, but we did this for my sisters baby shower.. we went to ac moore and picked up wicker baby strollers, we broke off the handles and wheels to make them look like bassinets. we hot glued lace and ribbon around the edge. then we took little drawstring sachets and put potpourri in them and then placed them in the bassinettes. everyone loved them. good luck
It all depends on how much you want to spend and how big the shower is going to be. For my shower the favors they gave small dolls that were music boxes, and matched the fairy tale character to each guest at the shower. All the dolls were girls, except the Peter Pan they gave me (to represent my son). A less expensive idea, that doesn't require much crafty ability is to make chocolate lollipops. You can get all the items to make them at any craft store. Good Luck!!
I just hosted a baby shower and we did the whole baby is brewing. A mug with tea bags and cookie in it. We made a cute tag with a little baby sitting in a tea cup saying a baby is brewing. I also am a big fan of the bun in the oven. Then you put muffin mix in a bag with a tag that says the timer is due to go off and the due date of the baby.
Hope that helps
I know you can order little candy bars in a pink or blue wrapper that say "It's a girl" or "Its a boy". I also think the M&M's company has information on their website for specially made M&M's you can order through them. I don't know the address to their website off hand- But you can google it, I am sure. Here in Bethlehem, PA we have the Just Born Candy factory in town. They make Mike and Ikes, Jelly Belly Jellybeans and the marshmallow peeps. If you contact them, they may be able to help you also. And- in Easton, PA is the Crayola Factory- they might have special services like that also.
Also, Oriental Trading Co. has a webpage and if you look through their things you may get some ideas.
I know of someone who gave pre-printed t-shirts rolled up in a little basket with some Hershey candies, as their shower favors. I think the t-shirts said something like
"I was at Jennifers baby shower and all I got was this t-shirt" It was pretty funny! I think the shirts were yellow. This person ordered them from a company online and she ordered M, L and XL. I've also seen sayings like " For Crying Out Loud- I was at a Baby Shower!!" and " Life as you know it is over- someone's having a baby!" and " My friend is pregnant, please send chocolate!"
Hope this helps!!
Is the baby going to be born around a holiday or special time of the year?
Hi, Just an idea, no pressure at all :-) of course, but I make tiles, and made little feet magnets (about 1.5" x 1.5 ") for my friend's baby shower and they were a big hit. I can send you some images (or a sample) if you want (just let me know). Here is my website in the meantime www.tilesbymarci.com, but I don't think I have any of the feet magnets up on my site yet. Anyway, just an idea. They are $5 each. But if you ordered a large quantity I would be nore than happy to discount that price for you. :-) Also there is a store in Ambler (The Flour Pot - I think they also have a website) that does adorable cookies... that is what they did for my baby shower and they were a big hit as well. Good luck :-)
Hi J. go onto ebay and look they will have alot of ideas for games and favors. Congratulations on becoming an aunt. good luck
Hi J.-
A friend of mine makes her own soaps, lotions, etc. For my sister's baby shower Teri made glycerin soap bars in the shape of a heart with "It's a Girl". They smelled just like baby powder. The guests went nuts over them. The store is located in Washington, PA. Let her know that I referred you. The following is something I copied from her website. Good luck!

The best that I have seen was a pretty wrapped box with little candies inside, and a note on the top indicating that a donation was made to the March of Dimes in lieu of favors. Favors are typically pretty useless stuff. The money went to something useful, and everyone thought that it was a great idea. It helped that my cousin had had very premature twins, and received a lot of help from that organization, so it was significant and touching to everyone at the shower.
J., I just found personalized M&M's. I was going to get them for party favors for my soon to be 7 year olds birthday party. You can pick the colors (only 2) and personalize the saying. Check it out at M&M.com.
